| blindcynic03-24-07, 12:39 AM | Hi all, I was just watching some TV, mainly Casino Royale and the first season of Prison Break. (bits and pieces of both) I also just loved Christian Bale's batman and have always wanted to do something with that whole idea. It got me thinking about what a great campaign would be if you had to rescue someone from a prison in DnD. (Not that much of a stretch when watching Prison Break.) Then I thought about that superb stunt/athlete guy who runs away from Daniel Craig in the first big chase scene in Casino Royale. So here goes Derezetti clan Mage In the campaign world I am currently designing the Derezetti clan is a mysterious order of rogues and wizards that maintains all manner of control on various governments. In some cases their control is tenuous at best, they can influence a guard being hired etc. In other cases their control is quite amazing, by using intelligence gathered by their clan mages they black mail, murder or sell national secrets out to other nations. (The Derezetti clan also employs Ninja...but that's a different subject.) Req's: Ability to cast 2nd level arcane spells; MUST be able to cast invisibility. Sneak attack +3d6 Skills: Knowledge (Architecture) 6, Knowledge (Engineering) 6, Gather Information 6, Climb 10, Balance 10, Pick Locks 4, spot 6 Level 1: Warrior of the Night (Su): Derezetti clan mage's have Darkvision 120 ft. (Su) +1 casting level to existing class Level 2: Urban Specialist (Ex): A Derezetti clan mage is at his best in large buildings, cities and urban centers. He makes it a point to use city terrain to his benefit. A Derezetti clan mage gains a +2 bonus to climb, jump and balance checks in Urban or man-made areas. Level 3: Out of sight, out of mind (Su): A Derezetti clan Mage of this caliber has mastered the invisibility spell to such perfection that he can cast it at will as a free action (Note he can use this ability only ONCE per round)! Level 4: Sneak attack +1d6 Level 5: Trained Memory (Ex): A Derezetti clan mage can memorize buildings by examining them quickly or having passed through them. He must visit each room, spending at least 2 rounds in each. What is special though is that a Derezetti clan mage has a savant like memory for buildings and such, including dungeons. Once he has been somewhere, he knows that layout. He simply has to succeed at Knowledge (Architecture) and Knowledge (Engineering) checks and can add the building to memory. As though he knows every floor, every entry point, every exit etc. He can think of ropes, pipes, furniture, fireplaces and other features of each room without difficulty etc. +1 spell casting level to existing class Level 6: Spy-like, Sherlock Holmsian Quality (Ex): A Derezetti clan mage's savant like abilities continue to grow and flourish. He now has the ability to notice smaller details about people. He gains a +2 bonus to spot checks and on a successful spot check he can discern the class of a subject DC 25 (Note he cannot determine the level). on a successful spot check DC 30 he can discern where that subject has been recently in a vague manner. (Eg. Hewitt the dwarf walks in with mud on his boots and a burr on his beard. Somewhere muddy, but the mud has a lot of redness to it, meaning it's high in iron. Also the burr on his beard is from a specific plant. (a terrisean black petal bush) Where is an area high in Iron that has terrisean black petal bushes?) Note: This ability also works on corpses. Level 7: sneak attack +1d6 Level 8: Spy-like, Sherlock Holmsian Quality II (Ex): A Derezetti clan mage has learned to read people like books. He now has a +4 bonus to spot checks. He can also use the spot skill to notice things that others just wouldn't believe possible. He must observe the candidate dead or alive for at least 2d6+2 rounds. After which he makes a spot check DC 30. If successful he can discern what hand the subject is, (left, right or ambidextrous?), how confident, how skilled with a blade, how strong his target is? (ball park only 1st-4th? 5th-9th? 10th-14th? 15th+?) To notice really odd things, like were the victims pockets searched? Did he die here or was he moved? etc. This is quite a broad investigative ability if used with imagination the Derezetti clan mage can be incredibly potent. Level 9: Trained to resist (Ex): Derezetti clan mages are taught to deal with secrets and keep the Derezetti clan itself a secret. They are trained to willfully resist all mind influencing charms, torture and subterfuge beyond normal limits. They gain a +4 bonus to will saves. Level 10: Man of Mystery (Su): Derezetti clan mages are nothing if not men and women of mystery. At this point they can resist all detection, scry and true seeing spells cast at them with a successful will save. (DC is caster's level) +1 spell casting level to existing class |
