OK, I did not come up with this, one of my players did. I'd like to see if the boards has any comments on it. the idea is to give a Shadowcaster Skiamancer Prerequisites: Knowledge: The Planes 5 Ranks Knowledge: Arcana 5 Ranks Three Metashadow Feats Special: The ability to cast the mystery Shadow Evocation HD: d4 Skills: Concentration, Craft, Decipher Script, Knowledge: Arcana, Knowledge: The Planes, Spellcraft, Spot Skill Points per level: (2 + Int) Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special 1st +0 +0 +0 +2 Studied Shadow, +1 Mystery Caster Level 2nd +1 +0 +0 +3 True Skiamancy 1/day, +1 Mystery Caster Level 3rd +1 +1 +1 +3 Studied Shadow, +1 Mystery Caster Level 4th +2 +1 +1 +4 Lesser Shadow Strength, +1 Mystery Caster Level 5th +2 +1 +1 +4 Studied Shadow, +1 Mystery Caster Level 6th +3 +2 +2 +5 True Skiamancy 2/day, +1 Mystery Caster Level 7th +3 +2 +2 +5 Studied Shadow, +1 Mystery Caster Level 8th +4 +2 +2 +6 Greater Shadow Strength, +1 Mystery Caster Level 9th +4 +3 +3 +6 Studied Shadow, +1 Mystery Caster Level 10th +5 +3 +3 +7 True Skiamancy 3/day, +1 Mystery Caster Level Studied Shadow: At first level and every two levels thereafter, a Skiamancer may add any spell with the Shadow Descriptor to their Mystery's Known list. It is treated as a mystery of equal level to its original spell level, and the Skiamancer must have an Mystery caster level equal to the normal caster level required to cast the spell. This spell falls under no path of Shadow magic, and therefor cannot benefit from the "Path Focus" or "Greater Path Focus" feats. True Skiamancy: Once per day at second level (Improving to twice a day at sixth and three times a day at tenth) a Skiamancer may cast any spell with the shadow descriptor that is not on their Mysteries Known list. It is treated as a mystery of equal level to its original spell level, and the Skiamancer must have an Mystery caster level equal to the normal caster level required to cast the spell. Lesser Shadow Strength: When casting a mystery that allows for a will save to disbelieve for partial effect (like Shadow Evocation) the percent of the spell that is "real" increased by 10%, to a maximum of 100%. Greater Shadow Strength: When casting a mystery that allows for a will save to disbelieve for partial effect (like Shadow Evocation) the percent of the spell that is "real" increased by 20%, to a maximum of 100%. This effect stacks with Lesser Shadow Strength. -------------------------- Balance notes: The Skiamancer has a smaller HD than a Shadowcaster (d4 as opposed to a d6), and a 10 Shadowcaster/10 Skiamancer ends up with a weaker connection to the plane of shadow, missing out on the top two levels of the Sustaining Shadow class feature of the Shadowcaster class (this is "Immunity to poison" and "No Need to Eat, Sleep or Breath," respectfully). They also give up the extended darkvision at 11th, and loose the good Fort save that a Shadowcaster has, plus a few other class features. They also loose hide, move silent and a couple of other skills from their class list. ***** My thoughts: I think that his "Studied Shadow" and "True Skiamancy" abilities are giving him a few too many options. One or the other might be OK, but both? A shadowcaster is supposed to be a limited class. His shadow strength abilities might also be pushing things a little much, though it might balance out with the smaller HD and less skills. A requirement for three metashadow feats might be a bit too much, too. What do you guys think?
