I love Psionics. I love the Tome of Battle. But it makes me sad that there are no classes combining the two. I had a look at Jade Phoenix Mage, and had a flash of inspiration. What if there were a Psionic variant of the JPM?

Has this been done? I'd be very interested to know if there has, or is it easy (or god forbid, balanced) to convert the abilities to Psionics?

I was thinking - remove the "expend a spell slot" and replace it with "expend power points as if you were casting X level power". The cost of powers seem to be consistent within levels, so that's fair.

The metamagic abilities seem a little difficult to word.
"You can manifest a power as if quickened with a maximum expendature of power points equal to your manifester level -6?"

The Firebird stance is also odd, as there really aren't that many fire related psionic powers. Maybe the Psionic JPM should focus more on the Diamond Mind type things (as they do share an alarming similarity).

So, what do you think? What can be done to convert JPM to Psionicism?

It's a fairly easy Psionic X conversion; in fact, one of my friends plays a Phoenix Master, and he absolutely loves it.

For the metapsionics, the "without increasing effective spell level" pretty much means "without spending extra power points and/or (depending on what your DM will allow) expending psionic focus". If you or your DM is concerned about the power level (mind the pun) of the stuff that gets pumped through those, you could disallow augmentation... However, the free scaling of spells and flexible augmentation of powers (which do still cost PP) are roughly equal balance, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

For the stances, our guy picked one energy type to permanently stick with.

I myself also am working towards a Phoenix Mage character in a different campaign, using a Shadowcaster (with house fixes). The prospective build (which focuses more on melee combat than casting, since shadow magic isn't exactly... powerful) looks very very cool.
