Question about a Wizard PrC'ing [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-05-08, 02:18 AM So, in a current game I'm in my character died, druid/momf/warshaper, so I'm contemplating making a wizard. The primary reason I considered wizard is I won't have to rely on my DM to choose what spells to give me, his ruling on wild shape was I could turn into things I had encountered which unfortunately made master of many forms less and less appealing as we rarely ran into anything new, and the group doesn't have any real spell casters.
Anyway, on to the question, does multiclassing out of Wizard stop one from gaining new spells in a spell book at each new level? As we have received nearly 0 scrolls throughout the campaign so far, and prc's that increase spell casting increase spells per day, but make no mention of adding new spells to the spell book I wasn't sure. Obviously I'd rather not rely on the random chance of finding spells.

Spells per Day/Spells Known

When a new archmage level is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in whatever arcane spellcasting class in which he could cast 7th-level spells before he added the prestige class level. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If a character had more than one arcane spellcasting class in which he could cast 7th-level spells before he became an archmage, he must decide to which class he adds each level of archmage for the purpose of determining spells per day.

If your prestige class adds spells per day you also get the additional spells known and increase in spell level. Basically you get everything relating to casting spells from the class you are leaving. Your familiar stays little though...

01-05-08, 03:48 PM Alright, the only reason I asked was because spells known is something specific to sorcerers while the spells gained are within the spell book rather than specifically "spells known"
