Hi all,

I was doing some reading through my DMG and I stumbled upon following wording:

Natural Armor Increase (Ex): At 1st, 4th, and 7th level, a gains an increase to the character’s existing natural armor (if any), as indicated on Table: The Dragon Disciple (the numbers represent the total increase gained to that point). As his skin thickens, a dragon disciple takes on more and more of his progenitor’s physical aspect.

Does this mean that if the character doesn't have an existing natural armor she doesn't get the bonus?

Or does every creature have natural armor, but with most it's just 0 and thus let it apply anyway?

If you don't normally have natural armor you start with Natural AC 0 and so the class increases it.

The reason the class states that it improves existing natural armor is to show that if you are a race that already possesses natural armor (say a lizardfolk) this increase stacks with that and can be further enhanced by Natural AC enchancers such as an Amulet of Natural Armor +1.

Yes, if you have no natural armor, your NA is +0. Listen to StevenO.

about that tho... the nat armor is +3 by lvl 9. When you ain template is it + 7 or just up to +4?

and we gain +4 str by lvl 9, does the +4 from h-dragon template stack to a +8?

When you finish the class you net bonuses should match that given by the Template: +4 Natural AC, natural attacks, breath weapon, Str +8, Con +2, Int +2, Cha +2, plus normal dragon immunities and abilities.

I posted this once as the "Monstrous Disciple" (run a title search) but basically the Dragon Disciple is just a +3 LA template added to what I think isn't such a bad seven level PrC.
