| Kravell04-05-07, 10:37 AM | If a monk takes levels in the shadow sun ninja prestige class (Tome of Battle) how do the maneuvers learned work? I assume from the example NPC that each Martial Study allows for one readied maneuver per encounter with no recovery. Therefore, a 1st level shadow sun ninja/6th level monk with three Martial Study feats and no martial adept classes could ready any three maneuvers before each encounter. A monk/shadow sun ninja can therefore ready three of the four maneuvers he knows at 1st level. A 5th level shadow sun ninja/6th level monk would know 5 maneuvers, of which four can be readied before each combat. A 10th level shadow sun ninja/6th level monk would know 7 maneuvers and could ready five before each encounter. Does this analysis sound correct? Thanks. |
| Despot_Arrow04-20-07, 05:26 PM | That sounds correct. But at first level ShSN you can only ready the manuvers from the feat you have choosen. So it sounds like it would be best if you took a level of Warblade or Sword Sage. |

The maneuvers acquired by the feats are automatically readied, but will never form a "Readied Maneuvers pool" like a martial adept class does. So I guess that the maneuvers known by a martial adept PrC would have to follow the maneuvers readied number given by the PrC and only that number, meaning that until you get a "1" on the readied maneuvers class column in the class features table, all your known maneuvers are not usable. As Despot_Arrow said, these PrCs just NEED a martial adept class. Not only for recovery, but also for these kind of issues. A rewording of the Martial Study feat could also solve the problem: if it was something like "you learn a maneuver ad gain a readied maneuver "slot" that you can use for this or other known maneuvers acquired with this feat", it would be a little better... |

| Barloch04-21-07, 03:16 AM | The rules you're looking for are at the beginning of the prestige class section in ToB. |
| Kravell04-23-07, 07:00 AM | Barloch, Thanks. I see how it works now. |
| Kravell04-23-07, 07:02 AM | Thanks everyone who responded. Looks like you simply add the maneuvers known to the maneuvers you learned from Martial Study and ready one for each Martial Study feat you have. And you can change them after 5 minutes of meditation etc. |
