My 11th level Paladin has just turned Blackguard and my DM has given me permission to allocate the 11 levels between ex-Paladin and Blackguard any way that I see fit. I am thinking 10 levels of Ex-Paladin + 1 level of Blackguard, but I wanted to see what you guys thought. Maybe I should go with 10 levels of Blackguard and 1 level of ex-Paladin or something in between? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!

Dude, if you have 11 pali levels, you should go ex-pali 1 / blackguard 10. You have nearly all the abilities of a pali 10 with the spellcasting power of a 10 cleric.
For future levels, I'd take the practiced spellcaster feat and go up in another prestige class.
I, personally, would go up in Assassin or Kensai.

I went with Ex-Paladin 9 / Blackguard 2

I went ahead and put the extra levels in Ex-Paladin because that was a one shot deal and I needed 9 levels to get my undead companion. The Blackguard levels can still be built on if I want. I may go to 5th level with the Blackguard. ( I am about 5000 Xp away from hitting 3rd level Blackguard.)

If I do build him up to 5th level, I will most likely switch to something else at that point. An assassin sounds cool but I'm not familiar with Kensai. Can you give me some details or tell me what book its from?

What I am really hoping to get into is some heavy necromancy and eventually lichdom. Or would that be a Death Knight?
