Questions about the Mystic Theurge.. [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-01-07, 02:23 PM Am I reading this right, that this class gives double the spells and twice the list?

A 3 Cleric, 3 Wizard, 10 Theurge would have ...

Cleric 6, 5+1, 5+1, 4+1, 4+1, 3+1, 2+1, 1+1
Wizard 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1
plus bonus spells

per day? and obviously along with that, both spell lists?

03-01-07, 02:41 PM You are correct. But before you die of sticker shock, let me point out that the Mystic Thurge is actually only so-so because he'll always be at least a spell level and several caster levels behind the party's full casters. A mystic thurge just can't lower the same level of boom that a full caster can and will have a harder time overcoming SR. Even if you take Practiced Spellcaster, you have to take it once for each class, which is a significant investment.

03-02-07, 01:38 PM As a Wizard 3/Cleric 3/Mystic Theurge 4, you have the spellcasting of a level 7 Wizard and a level 7 Cleric (assuming those were your base classes).

Of course, your can still only take the same number of actions per round, your HP is low, and you're a spell level and a half behind. If you look at it in a CR sense, two characters of CR 7 is an EL9 encounter... and they can each act in a round. You should be EL 10.

While all of this is true, you'll have many spells to buff yourself or magically escape a dangeous situation.

AND there is a feat called Practised Spellcaster. While you would have to take it twice (one for each spell casting class) it allows your spell level to equal your character level. So the spells you do cast have an extra punch.
