| Andrewman06-21-07, 08:08 PM | Hi, I was flipping through the Complete Warrior and saw the Occult Slayer, which looked kind of...I don't know, neat? But there were a few things that I didn't quite understand on it. The Mind over Magic ability says they can deflect spells or spell like abilities directed towards them as though they had the spell Spell Turning on. It says the caster level equals the characters occult slayer level +5. Just want to make sure I'm correct in assuming that you only add the Occult Slayer class levels to the +5. Then there is the ability Blank Thoughts. The Occult Slayer induces a state of mental absence which makes them immune to mind affecting spells. They can activate this and suppress it as a free action. My question on this one is if it doesn't say how long it lasts, can you just turn it on and leave it for as long as you want? Last question I have is on RPing the character, I'm trying to understand if they would be in the same party as a caster and could only hold ill will to a certain type of mage or cleric, or alignment, etc... |

You can leave it on or off as long as you like. This is the real reason I chose Occult Slayer. Completely immune to mind-affecting spells and abilities? Golden. 3.) I'm in a party of.. well.. nearly all of them can cast spells in some form or another. I roleplay it as.. I'm fine with magic, as long as it's used responsibly and wisely. Unfortunately, the warmage in our party ****** off some pixies earler in the campaign, which provoked them into completely erasing his memories. He's now acts like a toddler with the power to do over 100 damage with one spell. It's rather amusing to RP. |

| immortal_fighter06-22-07, 01:11 PM | i became a cult slayer because i hate spell chuckers, and witht he ability you get fromt he occult slayer to do double damage is what brought my attention to it. |
| CaoSlayer06-22-07, 02:14 PM | note that is good to have the mind inmunity off if there is a bard or someone else who use mind affecting buff spells. |
| Orenmir06-22-07, 02:36 PM | It almost impossible to find a party without a caster that hasn't specifically built the party without them. My Occult Slayer had to swear an oath to the party leader (a wizard, 4 levels above the others) not to harm the casters in the group. Here's how I role play it... Anytime I sense a caster; I attack first, and ask questions later. If I find out the caster is not abusive to magic, I might give him a break. |
