| Azarskittar07-01-07, 12:17 PM | Hello. I'm about to create a cleric of Lathander for an upcoming campaign who may become a Radiant Servant of Pelor adapted for Lathander. The problem is Lathander has no Healing domain, so Radiant Servant's healing abilities would be wasted on my character. Is there any way to use the Radiant Servant's abilities without access to the Healing domain? |
| bob_the_great07-01-07, 12:58 PM | The problem with this is that Lathander has always had his own prestige class, the Morninglord (I played one in 2E). I believe it's in Faiths and Pantheons, though I get titles of deity books confused. |
| Azarskittar07-01-07, 01:32 PM | Yes, the Morninglord is in Player's Guide to Faerun, and it is my second option. The Radiant Servant, however, is more to my taste. |

| Azarskittar07-01-07, 03:07 PM | That's great, but how can you use the Radiant Servant's Empower Healing, Maximise Healing and Supreme Healing abilities as a cleric of Lathander when Lathander grants no access to the Healing Domain? As far as I know, a spell only counts as a domain spell when it is prepared in a domain slot, right? |

As far as I know, a spell only counts as a domain spell when it is prepared in a domain slot, right? Well, healing ain't in Lathander's portfolio so you can't. Of course, you could redesign the class, switching places for the "Bonus Domain" feature and the "Empower Healing" feature and decide that the bonus domain must be the healing domain, but I don't think that is much of a lathanderish adaption. You could simply remove the abilities too, in much the same way as a cleric of Pelor without the Healing domain could do, although that might be a bit harsh. The rather obvious solution is to trade the healing abilities for something else, better related to Lathander's domains. I'm not sure why the Radiant Servant of Pelor is more in your taste than the Morninglord of Lathander, but if it is for the healing abilities I'm afraid you're a heathen in the eyes of the God of Morning. |

In fact I think it would be weaker by taking the healing domain over the other choices because even with the healing bonuses granted by the RSoP the healing domain is a weak domain. |
| StrongHead07-02-07, 02:05 PM | Hello, everyone! ^_^ Hello. Hope this helps... I'm currently DMing Dungeon Magazine's "Age of Worms" Adventure Path for a group of 5 players, using Eric Boyd's conversion notes for Fortgotten Realms. One of the PCs is now a Radiant Server of Lathander (our version of Radiant Server of Pelor). I've made the following changes: 1) In this campaign (AoW), I'm using the "Variant Turning Rules: Destruction of the Undead" option (CDiv, pg 87): 1d6 damage/cleric level, 30 ft radius, Will save (DC 10 + cleric level + CHA modifier) for half damage. 2) Since turning undead now causes damage, I had to change the Extra Greater Turnig ability. Now, whenever the Radiant Server of Lathander performs a greater turning, the granted power of the Sun domain (undead creatures that would be turned are destroyed instead), the damage is multiplied by 1.5. 3) Lathander doesn't have the Healing domain, so I changed the Empower, Maximize and Supreme Healing class features using the example presented here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebmoh/20050311). Essentially, it amounts to this: For the empower healing, maximize healing, and supreme healing abilities, instead of affecting domain spells from the healing domain, it allows the radiant servant to prepare (thus they cast choose these spells spontaneously) as many as half his class level divine conjuration (healing) spells each day with the effects. For example, a 10th-level Radiant Servant of Lathander can prepare 5 divine conjuration (healing) spells of any level that are affected by the Empower, Maximize and Supreme Healing. Those spells do not use up a higher-level slot. 4) The Positive Energy Burst class feature now causes maximized damage (6 points/class level), Will save (DC 10 + class level + CHA modifier) for half damage. It still uses up two turning attempts. This character is _very_ effective against undead monsters. :) If you do not want to use the variant turning rules, just ignore the changes I made. #3 is what you're looking for, I believe. :) Check the link above for more information. |
