| Cala, Legend Reborn06-12-07, 04:18 AM | Try the Cavestalker from Drow of the Underdark. You need to have darkvision as a racial trait, but it's 4th level ability gives you proficiency in spiked chain, and allows you to use it as a one-handed weapon, provided you selected two-weapon combat style for the ranger. |
| The_Shaman06-12-07, 04:33 AM | You can, although IMO the class is a bit front-loaded and after lvl 11 you mostly improve your spellcasting. Well, ranger spells are not bad if you have a few supplements, but still, I think the latter part of the progression could use some extra love. Consider the scout/ranger gig with Swift Hunter from Complete Scoundrel, or just have the houserule that ranger animal companions advance at ranger level - 3 instead of ranger level / 2. Several friends have used it as a houserule, and they say it's okay. Aside from that, what are you looking for in a PrC? Perhaps we can help. |

Right now my Character is a 13th lvl CG ranger who took Ranged attacks over two weapon fighting. Im trying to figure if the 4th lvl ranger spells, hide in plain sight and the extra two fav enemies will be useful. The way it is going Im thinking the campaign will go close to 20th-22nd lvl. Right now multiclassing does not seem like a good choice (unless I choose Wizard :D) P. class seems cool, but I been over half a dozen of the complete books and nothing has grabbed my attention. Im just looking for something that keeps my attack bonus going as normal and add a few new tricks that can be useful. |
| The_Shaman06-13-07, 02:42 AM | Hmm. The casting progression is okay, but IMO nothing too fancy - and I don't know that many good lvl 4 ranger spells. Pretty much the only fitting PrC that can boost it and remains at full BAB is afaik the windwalker from Faiths and Pantheons. Still, even with supplements, higher level ranger casting isn't that incredible, and it only seriously improves in levels 17-20. Other than that, Deepwood sniper (MoW, not updated=valid) and peerless archer (Silver Marches) are both good for archers (the first specializes in long-range shots, the second in bowslinging), and if you could make the transition to a more roguish character the Nightsong Enforcer (Complete Adventurer) should be quite useful to you as well (sniping, less AC penalties, some rogue tricks). 6 levels of Horizon Walker (DMG) can be strangely effective, as they allow your character to keep the right distance from any trouble (which, as you are an archer, is very important), plus it gives you some okay bonuses on many important skills. And, of course, you could go for the "druid in a can" - the Nentyar Hunter from Unapproachable East. While it may be a little better for melee characters, you get a few very useful tricks out of it as well, and it is imo worth even with the medium BAB. For multiclassing, I could recommend druid or cleric over wizard, seriously, since I guess your char has the wisdom to cast those lvl 4 ranger spells. Druid/ranger may be worse than full druid, but it is still very good. The improved animal companion and fort save doesn't hurt, either. Well, the scout is definitely an option with Swift hunter, as you actually keep the favored enemy progression, and get skirmish and a few other tricks with as little as 3-4 levels. |
| Aloki06-14-07, 11:54 AM | http://www.geocities.com/winspir/prestige/p_foe_hunter.htm It is 3.0, but with a few very minor tweaks (such as switching Wilderness Lore to Survival etc.) It should be usable |
