Howdy!
Anybody tried to fix this PrC, making it worthwhile?
I tried making it work, but it only works as a part of something greater, such as a Dervish...

do you mean that class that only a moron wouldn't take it, if he was playing a bard that is.

That would be the Sublime Chord, so no. I mean the Seeker of the Song. Same book, different class.

Bard 20 is perfectly playable. You want a better Seeker? Give it scaling damage.

Something like 1d6/class level + Performance check or something.

I never liked the sublime cord. I always thought the seeker was by far the most powerful bard prestige class, without multi classing.

I thought the Seeker was not decent as a PrC, but now I'm playing it and I was completely wrong (currently 10 bard / 3 seeker).
- It's the only class that give you the possibility to play two different music at time, it's a great class ability.
- While singing you gain bonuses to AC, TS, get DR and last Freedom of Movement while singing.

And the best part: the seeker music.
Apart the fact that you get resistance to energy that let you and your party live against damage-dealing spells and effects, consider that the refrains have:
- high CD saves (much more then a wizard)
- are used as a swift action (you know, you have a complete round to spend after that)
- aren't affected by spell resistance
You could argue that they don't do much damage comparing to a wizard... not true. The wizard spells often deal half damage, while the seeker's ones deal full damage: character specialized in the saving throw will do it 75% of the time, those who are so-so, do it 50% and the ones who are bad, do that about 25% of the time. Against the CD of the seeker all of these three categories drop by 1, so specialized 50%, so-so 25%, bad never.
And I'm talking only about damaging seeker music, the other (apart the last one) are all valuable.

I've combined all these with the right feats and spells:
- I've learned utility spells to support party
- Melodic Casting, to cast spells without stopping the music
- Lingering Song, sing for the first round only and let the music plays for 10 rounds
- Song of Heart, combined with inspirational boost, give +4 to Inspire Courage and greatly enhance Inspire Greatness

I have a character who is great at support and blasting, can do these things in the same round. And last but not least with my music and magic I'm pretty well at combat too, obviously I'm better in ranged combat, but I'm busy enough with the first two tasks.

I played a wizard and a sorcerer for a total of 4 years, so I don't know these classes only in theory, but in practice too. I don't want to compete with this build against a blaster mage because they can use metamagic to maximaze etc. etc., but I'm pointing the fact that the Seeker of the Song is not a bad PrC at all.

so you had to play it to figure out that it is the god of bards?
and even though I say this I also dislike the bard but not because it is a bad class (because it is not) I just like to play the kick the baddies arse character

I'm only pointing out that most of the people (including myself) may say that is awful, if taking only a quick look at it.
I think your dislike for the bard it's not the topic of the discussion :)

I know I just thought I would point that out because for someone who does not like bards, I can sure tell the potential of this prestige class. :)

Eheh, however I wouldn't recommend the PrC to someone who don't like the bard, the concept remain the same: primary support ^_^
