| Stuntz04-23-07, 06:09 PM | My Changeling Recaster (Sorc7/Recaster2) just got her expanded knowledge ability, and I am unclear of the wording. Expanded Knowledge: At 2nd level, and again at 4th level, choose a spell up to one level lower than the highest level spell you can cast from any class’s spell list. You can add this spell to the spell list of the same arcane spellcasting class to which you added your increased spellcasting ability at that level. The first part seems pretty clear, she gets to choose one spell of 3rd level or lower from any class's spell list. What I am less clear about is which spell list it gets added to? Spells that she can choose from next level, or to her spells known list? -Stuntz |

In my understanding, you would add the new spell to the list of spells that she can choose from this level (as well as any later level of Recaster when she would be eligible to learn a new spell). On its own this feature doesn't grant her a new spell known, but I assume at levels 2 and 4 she does learn new spells, and Expanded Knowledge simply broadens the options available for one of those spells. Note that having a spell on one's spell list has advantages beyond being able to learn to cast that spell (when using wands, for instance), so in some cases it can be reasonable to add a spell to your list without learning that spell at all. |
| Stuntz04-24-07, 02:06 AM | Recaster is a changeling only prestige class from Races of Eberron. At level 2 of Recaster I did not get to add a 3rd level spell to my known list, so there is no way I could have added it. The only spells I got to add to my known spell list were 4 (My highest level) and 0. So either I have to wait to learn this special spell, I get the special spell as a bonus, or I have to take a cantrip as this special spell. That's where I am confused. -Stuntz |

So at your level, you get to pick one spell of third level or below to add to your sorceror spell list. Say you picked Cure Serious Wounds for example. This is now on your sorceror spell list, so you can freely use wands of it, and next time you become eligible to pick a new spell known of 3rd level, you could select it. |

The only spells I got to add to my known spell list were 4 (My highest level) and 0. Ah, I see why it's confusing then. Assuming you want to use this for a third level spell, you would add it to the list of spells you can learn next level. In the mean time you can freely use wands of that spell, though. |
