Recovering warblade maneuvers [Archive] - Wizards Community

Is this intended to mean that you cannot initiate a maneuver in the same round if you use a swift action during that round to recover maneuvers?

I had thought that initiating a manuver counts as making a melee attack, and so you could move(move act)/recover(swift act)/maneuver(standard attack act) each round.

The language in the rulebook is not clear, and as far as I can see says nothing more than "you only get one swift action per round", making the point that you cannot both recover maneuvers and also change your stance (unless you use a move action to change stance and a standard action to attack or do nothing).

You cannot initiate a maneuver or change your stance while you are recovering your expended maneuvers, but you can remain in a stance in which you began your turn.That's pretty clear.

And yes, you only have one swift action per round. If you use an immediate action, it's akin to using NEXT round's swift action, so if you counter, you cannot recover maneuvers on the following round either.

If you want to recover your maneuvers, you spend a swift action, and then either make a normal attack or spend a standard action flourishing. Note that you cannot use a maneuver in place of that attack due to the bolded quote above -- but after you make a single attack, you can then extend it to a full attack if you haven't moved.

02-27-07, 01:16 PM I suspect the reason it mentions not changing your stance on the round you recover is because the book contains a method for generating additional swift actions

In summary, for those not wanting to link it, pg 40 of the ToB further clarifies how a Warblade recovers their maneuvers and what they can and cannot do: "A warblade can recover all of his expended maneuvers as a swift action, followed by making a melee attack or using a standard action to do nothing else in the round. If he initiates a maneuver or changes his stance during a round, he can't recover his expended maneuvers."
