| AGM Illmater05-12-07, 06:22 PM | So I need a new character for Sundays game. We are playing a Planescape style game. I have no idea if this will be a one shot or a full campaign. I have decided to play a RKV for ToB. My question is this. For the first 5 levels, how should I split Crusader and Cleric? Should I go Crusader 3/Cleric 2/RKV 1? Or Crusader 2/ Cleric 3/ RKV 1? With the first one I get 3rd level Maneuvers and 1st level spells. With the second I get 2 level Maneuvers and spells. Either way I will have a +5 BAB decent Fort and Will saves (crappy Ref save) and some good variety. For my maneuvers I will of course have the healing one, but I will be focusing alot on the bypass DR strikes from both Devoted and Stone. |

You'll get 3rd level spells one level sooner. Take Crusader as your 5th level though, so you can access 2nd level maneuvers. |

Generally, it's more optimal to take as many levels in a spellcasting class as possible, as full spellcasting is the most powerful class feature in D & D overall. With that in mind, the most optimal RKV build is probably: Cleric 3/Church Inquisitor 6/Crusader 1/Ruby Knight Vindicator 10. The more common build will probably be this, though: Cleric 4/Crusader 1/Ruby Knight Vindicator 10/Church Inquisitor 5. Given what I know of your campaign, I would say that you might want to consider a less optimized approach if you don't know how long the campaign is going to last. Unless you like clerics a lot (I personally do), I'd consider going for Crusader 1/Cleric 3/Crusader +1 because crusaders are hella' fun to play. You will fall behind on your spellcasting, but you'll have maneuver access straight from level one. This post might give you some ideas, but it really comes down to what you want. |

I would still be a 4th level Initiate for maneuvers and stances....hmm. |
