| Prince Vine06-26-07, 11:37 AM | A new prestige class for a dragon themed campaign. Looking for some opinions and thoughts about it. Scion of the Circle The Circle of Ten was formed by Io the Ninefold Dragon as a governing body to act in the interest of all dragonkind when the dragons themselves couldn’t deal with each other. The Circle of Ten is made of eleven draconic creatures, one representing each kind of true dragon and an eleventh member known as the Scion of the Ten to act as Io’s agent and maintain balance. Membership in the Circle of Ten is based from one Scion to the next when the previous decides it is time to retire. If a Scion is killed the Circle as a whole appoints a successor, to avoid this most full-fledged Scions of the Circle have an apprentice or two that serve as assistants at meetings and as trainees who would be able to assume the mantle of Scion should anything unfortunate happen. The Circle of Ten meets every few years to negotiate on matters applying to dragonkind as a whole in the region, specifically those dragons that operate under the laws of the Circle. Matters usually involve territory and hunting as well as the occasion dispute involving mortal politics. All dragons who choose to be represented in the Circle of Ten are obligated to follow the rulings passed down by it and those who fail to do lose the protection of the circle. Becoming a Scion of the Circle All Scions of the Circle has some degree of magical training. Most are sorcerers, wizards, dragonfire adepts or the occasional cleric of a draconic deity. All have some degree of draconic heritage or essence that helps to ensure that they suitably represent their draconic charges. The title changes based on the represented dragon (i.e. Scion of the Blue or Scion of the Brass). Hit Die: d6. Requirements: To qualify to become a Scion of the Circle, a character must fulfill all the following criteria. Subtype: Dragonblood Languages: Draconic Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 12 ranks, Bluff 6 ranks or Diplomacy 6 ranks or Intimidate 6 ranks Feats: Draconic Heritage or Dragontouched Spells: Able to cast 3rd level spells or lesser invocations. Special: Must be chosen by a current Scion of the Circle. The Scion that recruits a new applicant determines who that applicant will represent on the circle. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Scions of the Circle gains no proficiency with any weapon or armor. Spells per Day/Spells Known: When a new Scion of the Circle level is gained, the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before he added the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. This essentially means that he adds the level of scion of the circle to the level of some other spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day, spells known, and caster level accordingly. Apprentice to the Dragon: A scion of the circle represents a certain type of true dragon, at 1st level you become associated with the kind of dragon the scion of the circle who recruited you represents as well as the energy type of that dragon’s breath weapon. You also gain a bonus to bluff, diplomacy and intimidate checks equal to your class level with all dragons. Furthermore all dragons represented with the Circle of Ten recognize you as a scion and you recognize them as a represented dragon. The Scion of Ten is not associated with any particular type of dragon. You receive a talisman of the circle attuned to you. Form of the Scion(Su): All scions of the circle value anonymity in their dealings. At 1st level a scion of the circle can appear as any creature of the dragon type or dragonblood subtype of small to large size of the same kind as their associated dragon. No effect, not even true seeing penetrates this effect. Many scions use this ability to appear as a large dragon during Circle meetings. Fearless (Ex): You are immune to dragons’ frightful presence. Energy Focus (Ex): At 2nd level the DC of all spells and abilities that use your associated energy increase by 1, at 4th level they increase by 2. The scion of ten can choose a type of energy or force for this effect, the scion of ten has the option of increasing two types by 1 at 4th level instead of one type by 2. Energy Resistance (Ex): At 2nd level you gain resistance 10 to your associated energy and two other types of energy. At level four this improves to immunity to your associated energy type and resistance 20 to the other two. The Scion of Ten gains resistance 10 to acid, electricity, fire and cold at 2nd level and resistance 30 at 4th level. Dragon’s Power (Ex): At 3rd level you deal +1 damage per die when using your associate energy. The Scion of Ten can choose a type of energy or force for this effect. Draconic Feat: At 3rd level you gain a bonus draconic feat that you meet the prerequisites for. Scion of the Circle (Ex): At 5th level you become a full-fledged Scion of the Circle. You stop aging as long as you remain in the Circle of Ten and a dragon of your associated type represented by the circle still lives. If you leave the Circle of Ten you age as normal. If there are no dragons of your type left before you leave the Circle of Ten you lose one point of constitution after a number of years equal to your charisma this continues until new dragons become associated with the Circle, or you die. Talisman of the Circle A talisman of the circle is a small token made of a metal or gem the same color as one of the chromatic or metallic dragons. Each one is attuned to an individual Scion of the Circle. A talisman of the circle allows its bearer to cast detect dragonblood at will. It allows the person to whom it is attuned to count as if they had one more draconic feat than they do for the purpose of other draconic feats. The attuned bearer can also automatically teleport to the chamber of the Circle of Ten the bearer can only bring his Scion of the Circle apprentices with him. The attuned individual can, at will, either summon the Talisman of the Circle into their hand or send it to their seat in the chamber of the Circle of Ten as a free action. |
