Searching for a PrC ... [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have found none, even looking in PrC archives, but I did find a few familiar spells and feats in Dragon 280 and one feat in Lost Empires of Faerun.

12-21-07, 08:10 AM Arcane Heirophant (RotW) combines Animal Companion and Familiar into one.

Bonded Summoner (MH) gives you an elemental companion.

I'm sure there are others. I don't really like familiars that much. I see them as a liability. I'll substitute them out for something else almost any time I can.

Here's something I noticed. If you are a wizard 5/rogue 3/arcane trickster 2...is your familiar treated as having a 7th level master or a 5th level one?

The relevant PH reference is this:
Familiar Ability Descriptions: All familiars have special abilities (or impart abilities to their masters) depending on the master’s combined level in classes that grant familiars, as shown on the table below. The abilities given on the table are cumulative.

Familiars are incredibly useful, but it takes some time, planning, and pre-knowledge to use them effectively.

To re-iterate my other question:

12-21-07, 06:56 PM Five; only levels in classes that give a familar or explicitly say that they advance its progressions count. OTOH, your familar will have half of your total HP, not half of those of a lvl 5 wizard, so you still get something

Of course, this changes if you have a familiar through the Obtain Familiar feat (er, CAdv or CArc, don't remember which one now), which keys it off your spellcaster level, period.

Anyway, LoM's Fleshwarper advances your familiar, and also gives it some extra tricks. Uncanny trickster and Legacy champion, by advancing features of another class, can advance your familiar as well.
