| Witchcraft04-11-07, 06:21 PM | Shadow Skin One minute he was an orc but the next she was an elf. Those Thuranni elves are weirdoes….~Tal Yewno, a dwarven bartender. Entry Requirements Skills: Bluff 8 and Disguise 10 Feat: Skill Focus (Disguise) Dragonmark: Must posses a least dragonmark (disguise self) Hit Die: d6 Class Skills The Shadow Skin’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Appraise (Int), Balance (Dex), Bluff (Cha), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Disable Device (Int), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Forgery (Int), Gather Information (Cha), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (local) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Open Lock (Dex), Perform (Cha), Profession (Wis), Search (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Sleight of Hand (Dex), Spot (Wis), Swim (Str), Tumble (Dex), Use Magic Device (Cha), and Use Rope (Dex). Skill Point per Level: 6+ Int Modifer Level Bab Fort Ref Will Special 1 Ave. Poor Good Good Wear Shadow, Dmark class levels 2 Sly Shadow 3 Bonus Dragonmark 4 Master of Disguise 5 Bonus Dragonmark 6 Lingering Shadows 7 Bonus Dragonmark 8 Shadow’s Protection 9 10 Shadow Perfection Wear Shadow (Supernatural): At 1st level you can gain the supernatural ability to call upon your Dragonmark to change your appearance. You can use up one of yours uses of your Dragonmark (Disguise Self) to use this ability. You gain a power similar to a changeling’s Minor Shapechange. Just like the Minor Shapechange ability. It is not an illusionary affect; the shadows literally change your appearance. However, the power does not last forever. At 1st level you can only stay in your new form 1 day/dragonmark caster level. At 6 level you can stay in your new form 1 week/ caster level (Lingering Shadows), and finally at 10th level your shadow powers become so powerful you can stay in your new from permanently (Shadow Perfection). You also only gain a +5 disguise bonus on disguise checks, not +10. Dismissing your form is a swift action and does not provide an attack of opportunity nor does it use up another use of your Dragonmark (Disguise Self). Shadow Power (Ex): Your power of your Dragonmark (Disguise Self) becomes so powerful that your caster level is equivalent as your character level. This only affects your Dragonmark (Disguise Self). Sly Shadows: Your wit and intelligence grants you’re a bonus when you trick and deceive. Add your intelligence bonus to Disguise and Bluff checks. Bonus Dragonmark: At 3rd and 7th level, you gain a 1 more usage of your Dragonmark (Disguise Self). Master of Disguise: At 4th level you don’t take any penalty on Disguise checks when your become a new race or age group. You also gain the subtype of the humanoid you are imitating, such as Elf and Dwarf. This is so you don’t need to take any penalty’s Use Magic Device (Race) checks. Shadow’s Protection: At 8th level your shadow magic gives you magical protection. Anytime a creature tries to read your mind (such as Detect Thoughts) and if you succeed on the will save, you can instead produce a misleading result. You don’t know the actual spell/ability nor do you know who used the ability. However, you do know what he is looking for so you can act accordingly. Notes of the Writer I wanted to create a shape-shifting PrC for the Shadowmarked house. The fluff will come later. Basically they will be the perfect spy. Taking on any shape, gender, and race to get the infomation without any one knowing. This is my first PrC so it may not be perfect. I will be creating a variant for spellcasters later. Thanks!! Spellcaster Variant Requirements: Add Caster Level 5th and knows three spells with the Shadow subtype. Changes: BAB=Poor Skills: 4+int and the class skills are the following: As wizards but you also gain Disguise, Bluff, Move Silently, Hide, Gather Information, and Escape Artist. |
| LordArchaon04-12-07, 04:41 PM | I like it! It just lacks some formatting, but I really like it! Maybe you should only decrease the duration of Wear Shadow in order to balance it a bit... After all why should the character want to stay in another form permanently? Pretty good!.. For being girl's work..! ;) P.S. If you forgive me for that last sentence (:D), leave comments to my last PrC, the Shadow Nefarite (http://boards1.wizards.com/leaving.php?destination=http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D827336)! |

I love changelings and I love the elves from Eberron...so I wanted to combine the 2!!! And it isnt permanently. You dismiss it as a swift action. Then you use another usage to rechange your form...from shadows. Anywho! What else do you guys think of? Is it balance? Ok? Once I am 100% sure this PrC is O.K I will start to make some fluff? Oh and I am just not a girl. Je suis une fille française. Witchcraft |
| Witchcraft04-14-07, 10:39 AM | :bump: Anyone? I know this is an Eberron PrC but...... |

Then you use another usage to rechange your form...from shadows. Then I'm not entirely sure what the permanent shadow ability does... so is the wording a little unclear or am I just dense? But yes... I think it's a cool idea. I'm a fan of changelings myself. :) Anywho! What else do you guys think of? Is it balance? Ok? Once I am 100% sure this PrC is O.K I will start to make some fluff? I think it's on the weak side... you have something that's close to either bard or rogue in power. Two good saves and skills like a bard with the enhanced dragonmark ability subing for spells... but with a poor base attack rather than an average one... or a rogue with a supernatural disguise, a good will save, a minor loss in skill points, and less chance to hit and do damage. I suggest either giving it an average base attack or adding another minor, yet thematically appropriate power... Oh and I am just not a girl. Je suis une fille française. So, since I don't speak french... I take it you're saying you are not just a girl, you're a french girl? You say it as if that is a more beautiful flower of womanhood than the rest... :P |

| LordArchaon04-14-07, 09:13 PM | A simple guess for that minor ability could be Sneak Attack, but it would be a little useless due to the poor BAB and the generally not-combat-oriented theming of the class. You know what? I would add magic. Maybe shadow magic... |
| ProdigalMadness04-14-07, 09:47 PM | This looks like you basically made a PrC to mimic changelings, and the special abilities of the class are basically feats that the changelings can take... |
| Witchcraft04-14-07, 11:02 PM | This looks like you basically made a PrC to mimic changelings, and the special abilities of the class are basically feats that the changelings can take... Yes and I would like your help to make it more, more shadowy and whatnot. |
| LordArchaon04-15-07, 08:13 AM | Witchcraft, do you know about Tome of Magic? Adding mysteries (special shadow magic spells) to your prestige class would make it very interesting! |
| teshen04-15-07, 01:10 PM | A simple guess for that minor ability could be Sneak Attack, but it would be a little useless due to the poor BAB and the generally not-combat-oriented theming of the class. . . Agreed. . . . Adding mysteries (special shadow magic spells) to your prestige class would make it very interesting! That's a good idea... but if mysteries would require obtaining a book that you don't currently have access to, think about adapting just a shadow spell or two as abilities... like spending a dragonmark use, or making a concentration check or some other mechanic, to make your form waver as though the blur spell... it could grant a scaling miss chance, such as 10% per 2 prc levels... which means a 50% chance to miss the character at the high end... it's weak, but defensive, and definitely shadowy... Just look to a few of the spells with either shadow or illusion for inspiration and see what sounds good. |
| LordArchaon04-15-07, 05:26 PM | Yeah, that's why I asked her, but you know what? The first mysteries I had in mind are not on that book, but one the Web Enhancement of Cityscape (part 2) (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20070307a): they are of course "urban-oriented" and especially the Apprentice path (the ones from spell level 1 to 3) would feel in theme with the class. They seem to be made for spies! |

Now I feel the need to point you to my shadow magic PrC, if you are interested in it, because it seems that nobody's interested into alternative stuff! :) It is called Shadow Nefarite (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=827336) and it's complete with new Fundamentals, two new apprentice paths and one new Initiate path! I also recently reformatted it and it comes with full, WotC style flavor text, so it can also be a good reading. |
| Metamagick08-26-07, 10:38 PM | I like the spellcaster variant! |
