I have a player who LOVES sorcerers. Just loves'em. She wants to become a Shadowdancer but she doesnt like that it has NO spellcasting advancement. Could I add one, maybe make the HD 1d4? If YES what levels? If NO why?

Shadowdancer always seemed like a weak class to me. You get the class' best abilities in the first two levels, and Shadow Jump is nigh worthless when you can get that and more by muticlassing into a spellcasting class like Arcane Trickster. Adding spell progression wouldn't break the class, imo.

As is, I wouldn't make it full progression because Shadow dancer does give you more Bab and a lot more skill points than a full caster would get. Maybe 1/2 spell progression.

For full caster progression, I would probably drop the HD to a d4 or d6, the skill points to either 2 or 4 per level. I'd leave the Bab the same, as I see a caster version of this class more suited to a stealth-oriented bard than a sorcerer due to the prereqs. A sorcerer aiming for this class would have to wait a long time unless she multiclassed.

Either way, I'd fix shadow jump to actually be more useful.

There was a really, really good shadow oriented prc on this site (http://www.wakinglands.com), but the site seems to be down. Which is too bad, cause it was a super shweet prc too :(

So could I drop the HD to 1d4 (keep the skills) and give it caster progression at 2,4,6,8?

Lots of skills and skill points, better Bab, and only 4/10 casting? Sounds resonable to me.

I'm still more than a bit skeptical about it, as it looks rather weak and requires feats you have little use of as a sorcerer. Plus, a lot of the abilities essentially mimic spells. How about they go into shadowcrafter or shadowcraft mage? The shadowdancer abilities can be emulated with a dragonpact with a deep dragon, the details are in Dragon Magic.

She wants to be a Shadow Dancer because she likes Hide in Plain Sight and the Shadow Jump powers.

Why doenst she take some levels in rouge?

What does having a few levels in a rouge? I am pretty sure they dont gain Hide in Plain sight and shadow jump...

Shadowcrafter: Underdark, 10/10 progression, shadow-magic and illusion abilities
Shadowcraft Mage: Races of Stone, gnome-oriented, 5/5 casting progression, shadow-magic and concealment oriented.

For additional powers, you might consider the shadowwalker template (shadow jump, and other good stuff), maybe stretching it into a prestige class. Mind you, greater invisibility beats hide in plain sight imo.

You can get HiPS by buying a collar of umbral metamorphosis. There's also a ring of evasion. Dimension door can do everything shadow jump can with a far greater range. Stick with classes that give CL progression.

Unapproachable East: soul gets infused with "shadowstuff", -2 con, +2 dex, various other abilities (great for thieves), gets spell-like abilities dependent on HD. +1 LA, however.
