Alignment: Single weapon master must be of lawful alignment due the intense training that they must go though. Religion: They worship kord if any, other wise they dedicate themselves solely to their training Background: most masters stem from military backgrounds. Races: humans and elves are the most likely to excel in this prc due to their ability to maintain focus. Halflings do not usually have the patience to exceed in this class. A few orcs with the right amount of intelligence exceed in this class due to there innate high strength. Other Classes: The master see the need for other others to fill the roles he cannot fill himself. As for warrior classes he believes their skills are nothing compared to theirs so they will most likely believe they are of no use in the party. Role: The Fighter Game Rule Information: Single weapon master has the following game stats. Abilities: a high strength is crucial for the master. dex and con are good secondary drivers. Alignment: any Hit Die:d8 Requirements To qualify to become a single weapon master a character must fulfill all the following criteria: Base Attack Bonus: +6 Feats: weapon focus, weapon specialization Alignment: any Weapon Proficiency: martial Special: must choose 1 weapon when you enter this class (must be at least a hand and a half weapon) this will be your chosen weapon for all abilities through the entire prc Class skills The Single weapons master's class skills (and the key ability modifier for each skill) are: fighter skill list Skill Points at Each Level: (2) + Int modifier. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Increased crit. modifier (Ex): This feature allows the master to increase his critical multiple a certain amount of times per day. this is done after the crit is confirmed but before damage is rolled. Supreme cleave (Ex): This feature allow the master to take a 5 foot step between his cleave attempts but to no more then once in a cleave attempt. Improved crit: As the feat Powerful grip (Ex): The master has started to master the use of his weapon he can now add 2x his strength bonus instead of 1.5 Powerful attack (Ex): The master has completely foregone the thought of striking more then 1 once on an opponent. He can now, as a full attack, strike once and double the damage on this attack and any others before the next round this includes attacks of opportunities and cleave attempts. Greater weapon focus : As the feat Improved power attack (Ex): The master is able to increase the damage output of his weapon, he now does 2.5x instead of 2x power attack when wielding a 2-handed weapon Greater weapon specialization : As the feat Increased threat range (Ex): The master knows exactly how to place his blows with increased effectiveness he now increases the critical threat range as 1 more (this bonus is applied after improved crit). Supreme power attack (Ex): The master gaining more insight into how to strike the most powerful blow, he now does 3x power attack instead of 2.5x now. Powerfully built (Ex): This benefit unlike most benefits through levels is not just acquired. the master must undergo intense training over a period of 4d4 days, in which then master tears down his muscle and rebuilds through grueling training, the effects: +4 strength and a +4 to all strength based checks. A master must maintain this training everyday for 3 hours, if the master is unable to complete his training he loses 1 strength bonus (up to the +4) everyday. He can regain this bonus back after completing his training. if the master goes 4 days without training he gets 1 last chance on the 5th day to regain his strength, this requires 6 hours to regain everything back. Single weapon supremacy (Ex): The master has attained the pinnacle of his abilities nothing can stand before his single swift strike: 1/day 1. the master can announce he is making a zonputa (killing strike). with this a master gains the effect of true strike, his multiplier is increased plus 2 (this uses 3 of his multipliers per day). 2. increases supreme power attack to 3.5 3. if the master crits on this attack its automatically confirmed 4. increases powerful grip to 2.5 ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| DonThelonious01-26-08, 02:34 AM | Class looks sweet, but it needs to be better explained. With you improved critical ability is that the feat or does the multiplier actually improve? If the multiplier improves then the ability could be considered cheese if players use the scythe (2d4 /x4 crit). If you look in my sig you will find a link to a PrC format sheet, which will help clean up your post (Sorry, just being nit picky/plugging). I would like to see a bit more fluff for this PrC as well. Over all it looks a bit over powered, though this could be just because the abilities are not explained. Great rough draft for a class though:D. |
| ultimate_tracker01-26-08, 02:42 AM | ill get on to clearing everything up a littl ebit later sorry about that, i get a few minutes to post everything on her between calls, (ho do you do the code thing for that havent doen it before, do i copy and paste sorry for sounding like a noob but i would appreciate the help) as for the increase in the crit it increase the range 1 greater after imp crit is applied so max of 14-20 min of 17-20 |
| DonThelonious01-26-08, 02:47 AM | For the PrC cheat sheet all you have to do is quote the original post, then highlight the style you want, copy and paste. The coding is already done for you, all you have to do is fill in the blanks. As for the abilities: get them all written in. After that I can examine them more closely and give you an honest PEACH on them. |
| ultimate_tracker01-26-08, 02:49 AM | hey thanks :) ive been needing this, i will get on it in about an hour or so so. |
| DonThelonious01-26-08, 02:51 AM | Take your time, there is no reason to rush things. Just send me a PM whenever you have it ready:). |
| serow_#R01-26-08, 08:11 AM | Just a nitpick, but is it possible to change the name of your class? Possibly like "Long Blade Master" or something? I can't use 50% of the class features if you use Weapon Finesse-based weapon, which definitely includes single blades of sorts (knife, kukri, short sword etc) :) |
| ultimate_tracker01-26-08, 12:00 PM | True,i was thinking single blade master but didnt want to limit the other two handed weapons.i suppose i could put a prerequisite for 2 handed weapon weapons only (hand a 1/2 weapons as well) but i would think those that were using smaller weapons would not find much use for this, as fordouble weapons, well this class is meant as a one hit a round double weapons would just seem akward to me. i did notice that i didnt change all the the wording to the correct name it's "single weapon master" not single blade master |
| DonThelonious01-26-08, 02:20 PM | As promised, here is an in-depth peach:D SINGLE BLADE MASTER Prestige Class By ULTIMATE_TRACKER Through intense training one can attain a perfection unmatched by others Adventures: The single weapon master fills the role of fighter in a party Characteristics: All masters are feared throughout the lands for their deadly efficiency with their weapons. Alignment: Single weapon master must be of lawful alignment due the intense training that they must go though. Role: The Fighter Game Rule Information: Single weapon master has the following game stats. Abilities: a high strength is crucial for the master. dex and con are good secondary drivers. Alignment: lawful Hit Die:d8 These look good, but why does it have a lawful requirement? I would drop the alignment listing all together. Requirements To qualify to become a single weapon master a character must fulfill all the following criteria: Base Attack Bonus: +6 Feats: weapon focus, weapon specialization, power attack, cleave, great cleave, and power critical Alignment: any Weapon Proficiency: martial Special: must choose 1 weapon when you enter this class (must be at least a hand and a half weapon) this will be your chosen weapon for all abilities through the entire prc Weapon focus (selected weapon) and weapon specialization pretty much cover the special requirement. Otherwise you just need to put a clause on the class abilities saying that they only apply to weapons these feats apply to.. Class skills The Single weapons master's class skills (and the key ability modifier for each skill) are: climb(str), intimidate(char), jump(str) Skill Points at Each Level: (2) + Int modifier. Just 3 skills? At least give them the fighter skill list. WHY USE ALL THAT ENERGY SWINGING YOUR WEAPON MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN 1 WELL PLACED BLOW WILL DO THE WORK JUST FINE! (SINGLE WEAPON MASTER) Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special 1 +1 +2 +0 +0 increased crit. multiplier 2/day, supreme cleave 2 +2 +3 +0 +0 improved crit, powerfully built 3 +3 +3 +1 +1 powerful grip 4 +4 +4 +1 +1 greater weapon focus 5 +5 +4 +1 +1 3/day, improved power attack 6 +6 +5 +2 +2 greater weapon spec. 7 +7 +5 +2 +2 increased crit threat range 8 +8 +6 +2 +2 supreme power attack 9 +9 +6 +3 +3 4/day 10 +10 +7 +3 +3 powerful attack 11 +11 +7 +3 +3 massively built 12 +13 +8 +4 +4 Single weapon supremacy Class features All of the following are class features of the Single WEAPON master prestige class. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Increased crit. modifier (Ex): This feature allows the master to increase his critical multiple a certain amount of times per day. this is done after the crit is confirmed but before damage is rolled. How big is the increase to the crit multiplier? This really needs to be clarified. Supreme cleave (Ex): This feature allow the master to take a 5 foot step between his cleave attempts but to no more then once in a cleave attempt. This is a pretty powerful ability when combined with the special bonuses to crits. Improved crit: As the feat I would switch this out with the increased crit ability. This would make a nice 1st level ability and would be working up towards the increased crit. Huh:confused:. I get the gist of what you have here, but the execution leaves a little to be desired. Powerful grip (Ex): The master has started to master the use of his weapon he can now add 2x his strength bonus instead of 1.5 This is a neat idea and a very powerful ability, I would make it work something like the paladins smite ability in that it has a limited number of uses per day. Greater weapon focus : As the feat Freeby feats never hurt:) Improved power attack (Ex): The master is able to increase the damage output of his weapon, he now does 3x instead of 2x power attack when wielding a 2-handed weapon This is a bit to powerful. Once again you might want to limit the number of uses. Greater weapon specialization : As the feat Another freeby... Increased threat range (Ex): The master knows exactly how to place his blows with increased effectiveness he now increases the critical threat range as 1 more (this bonus is applied after improved crit). This will make the threat range WAY to much. I forsee members of this class having 15-20/x4 with a scythe. Supreme power attack (Ex): The master gaining more insight into how to strike the most powerful blow, he now does 4x power attack instead of 3x now. As I said this needs to be limited as it it is way overpowered. Powerful attack (Ex): The master has completely foregone the thought of striking more then 1 once on an opponent. He can now, as a full attack, strike once and double the damage on this attack and any others before the next round this includes attacks of opportunities and cleave attempts. This should be a low level ability and could actually replace the Powerfully Built ability. Massively built (Ex): To more attune his body with his weapon. The master secludes himself in a place where none can learn his secrets. This training last 6d4 days, and must complete 4 hours of training to maintain this state. The masters’ strength increases an addition 4 points and strength checks increase +4. Once again, huh:confused:. Single weapon supremacy (Ex): The master has attained the pinnacle of his abilities nothing can stand before his single swift strike: 1. increases powerful grip to 2.5 2. increases supreme power attack to 4.5 3. all critical hits are considered confirmed 4. 1/day the master can announce he is making a zonputa (killing strike). with this a master gains the effect of true strike, his multiplier is increased plus 2 (this uses 2 of his multipliers per day). Way over powered! This ability would make a fine capstone with just the 'Zonputa' ability. Though True Strike may be a little much. -----------------------------------------------------------[/QUOTE] Overall the class idea and concept is excellent, and would make a good fix for the average fighter. The execution and abilities make this class a lot a bit overpowered. Individually they are not to bad, but when combined they are just to much. My advice is to pick one or two key abilities (IE: The increased critical and the powerful build, or the improved critical and the cleave or powerful build and cleave, etc.) you want the class to have and then spread them out over the 12 levels, until at the height of the class you are walking through a wave of enemies per round or doing single massive strikes against one enemy at a time. Instead of the Powerful and then massively built abilities, IMHO, you should just give them first Monkey Grip and then actual Powerful Build. Mind you Powerful Build is worth a level by itself. This way they get to deal the massive damage with a massive weapon. :cheer:Excellent 2nd draft. I get the impression that once this is balanced it will be a wonderful PrC. If I remember correctly this is your first one, isn't it? |
| ultimate_tracker01-26-08, 05:49 PM | 1. k i will drop the lawful alignment, and dropped the preeq feats to focus and spec. 2. skills yeah i was trying to go with fighters skills suppose i could have just put fighter skill list..... done 3. it increases the multiplier +1 4. im not sure if i misworded wrong or not but with imp crit and increased creat it would effectively be a max of 14-20 from an 18-20 weapon and a min of 18-20 from a 20 the increased crit ability increases the threat range after the imp crit is put onmeaning it only adds 1 more to the range (its not double in and of itself from the feat) 5.powerfully built and massivley built - i didnt want them to beconsidered any bigger i wanted them to show thrue intense training that tey have come to a perfection of their style and must maintain that perfection- it can be limited just give some ideas;) 6. powerful grip- did take this from a prestige class out of frostburn (not sure of the name) i could limit this but im not sure that its to overpowered (except maybe with the other abilities) i could limit this i might have an idea for this.... 7.improved power attack and supreme i did take out of the frenzied berserker class thought it made sense with this class but if this needs to be limited or maybe stunted to -imp 2.5 and sup-3 that might work 8.i suppose i could put powerful attack at the begining as for replacing powerfuly built like i said i like the idea maybe i could put powerful attack in place of powerfullt built then put it where powerfull attack was then completely take out massivley built 9.with the zonputa maybe if i put all the efects under the 1/day meaning the attack is automatically confirmed as a crit (if you get a crit off of it) true strike and the .5 increase to powerful grip and suprem power attack. ill put every thing up like i said here and see what you think |
| ultimate_tracker01-26-08, 05:56 PM | ther every thing is up also note that i changed on weapon supremcy that it uses 3 of per day uses of crit multipliers. and yes this is my first prc and thank you for the comments and kep them comming. |
| ultimate_tracker01-27-08, 01:12 PM | any more comments ????? i did change everything on here what are your thoughts |
| Captain_Kobold01-27-08, 03:38 PM | I found the name a little misleading as well: I associate weapon masters with concentrating on skill with whichever weapon that they specialise in. This class seems to consist of hulking, massively-muscled bruisers who just concentrate on hitting things really hard with their two-handed weapons. You might want to check your BAB table. Its going up by two points between levels 11 and 13. It looks like Power attack, Cleave, and Great Cleave should also be requirements since the class abilities automatically assume that they have them. Perhaps replace the current feat requirements with these feats. This would be more in line with the class abilities, which overall seem to favour muscles and strength over skill. Could you possibly rearrange the class abilities so that they are back in the order that they appear on the table? It was a little confusing at first before I realised that you had rearranged the table from earlier comments. |
| Maat_Mons01-27-08, 04:49 PM | Powerful attack is beneficial when you first get it, but it losses all effectiveness two levels later. Double damage on one attack is more average damage than two attacks, but less average damage than three attacks. It’s an even worse comparison when you get a fourth attack. Taking into account the decreasing probability of hitting with iterative attacks and normal attack bonuses versus normal ACs, I think a progression of the multipliers 1.5 at 1st, 2 at 4th, 2.5 at 8th, and 3 at 12th would keep damage with this ability near to damage with a full-attack. If you add in some additional benefit, such as reducing the time needed to use this ability to a standard action, it could make up for the lower damage at certain levels and make this a desirable option. I don’t think powerful attack should double the damage for attacks of opportunity or other attacks in the same round. This is just begging to be combined with Robilar’s gambit and time stands still. |
| ultimate_tracker01-28-08, 06:59 PM | i actually took the powerful attack from phb2 its a fighter alternitive for his 16th level feat i thought i was doing good by putting it this low already and as for cleave and aoo's that is what i assume the ability does since the ability states that the attack i a full round action that doubles the damge of the attack any attack made before your next turn (which cleave and aoo's could optimize on, also make the ability useful later on since your only doing that 1 attack) not sure if its that bad of an ability but if you have suggestion, and i might change it to standard action but i was trying to stay the same as the ability but if its not to over powered i wont mind changing it. i will change the abilities around for you so there in the right order sorry bout that. as for the name yeah kinda did it off the top of th head wanted a class that could finally focus on 1 weapon and it really depends on how you look at it yeah you can get the impression that he's a hilk smash but it really depends on perception (my look at this is hes in top pysical form and is able to take 1 swift strike, not neccesarily an all or nothing attack leaving you open because your smashing into him.) |
| Maat_Mons01-28-08, 10:37 PM | As written, the ability allows you to sacrifice some of the damage you would normally deal with a full attack to increase the damage you deal with such things as attacks of opportunity. That can be good if you have a means of regularly generating attacks outside your full attack, such as Robilar’s gambit. Cleave isn’t really sufficient since it doesn’t generally generate very many extra attacks. When I say the ability stops being useful, I mean for the sort of tactic I think you want the class to encourage. Unless you actually want the class to be focused on attacks of opportunity, I recommend you remove the multiplier for attacks made later in the round, increase the multiplier for the single attack, and add in some other bonus, such as reducing the type of action required. |
| ultimate_tracker01-28-08, 11:27 PM | my only prob her is over powering the attack, figher level 15 20 strength with greatsword and leap attack=12 from sword 5 from strength and 30 from pa-60 after leapattack= 77 per attack then 144 on crits this mean crits happening on every attack would put it to 576 damgae. now level 6 fighter and 9 level swm with great sword and leap attack 20 strength= 12 form sword 10 from strength 90 with supreme pa and leap attack= 112x2 for powerful attack=224 then x3 for crit= 672 yes he doesnt do as much, what i could do instead is increase the multiplier to x 3 instead later on but that would put that to 1062 per hit (max i know) my thinking is that a good feat specialist could muncchkin this so that he could get more attacks per round with aoo's and cleave but i was trying to think ahead on this so it powerfull but not overpowered. as for decreasing the action required that might not be to bad but i don't think anything greater then standard but then you have to take into acount that fighters have to take full rounds to do all their attack in a round..... maybe keep th multiplier the same and change to standard wouldn't be too bad (like you said) i just think it still might over power it a little |
| DonThelonious01-29-08, 01:30 AM | You are on the right track. I think what needs to be done is you need to get a mid level and a max level sample character put together than compare said samples to a standard character oe equal ECL, like say a barbarian or other high damage martial class. If the sample easily trounces the standard character you know you might have a problem, same as if the standard outshines the sample. As for the damage potential, well  :weep: WOW! Over 1000 points. Thats a whole hell of a lot... |
| ultimate_tracker01-29-08, 02:50 AM | sure no prob i will get something settup, as for the over 1000 that would be if i were to increase the multiplier of powerful attack as he incresed levels to 3, as of right now though even 672 is nice enough, input on the that ability would be appreciatedm, i know where Maat_Mons stands, and im not syaing your not right but i want to know what others think of on increasing the multiplier. |
| Captain_Kobold01-29-08, 09:27 AM | i will change the abilities around for you so there in the right order sorry bout that. as for the name yeah kinda did it off the top of th head wanted a class that could finally focus on 1 weapon and it really depends on how you look at it yeah you can get the impression that he's a hilk smash but it really depends on perception (my look at this is hes in top pysical form and is able to take 1 swift strike, not neccesarily an all or nothing attack leaving you open because your smashing into him.) It was the Powerfully built feature that most gives this impression. You are adding a straight +4 to strength. This will make you look even more overmuscled and misshapen than a half-orc. Its reinforced by the Powerful Grip and improved Power attack progressions, the class only being able to use weapons that are two-handed without extra training, and all of the abilities assuming two-handed use. I think that Maat Mons is incorrect about powerful attack being weaker than a full attack. He is assuming that all attacks are not using power attack, and that they would all hit. With the way that powerful attack synergises with the power attack improvements, you would likely be better off making a simgle attack at your full BAB with as much power attack as will allow you to still hit. Maat Mons is, however completely correct about this ability encouraging the AoO optimisation, which does seem a little off-key for the class. I would remove the bit about it also doing double damage for all other attacks made before your next turn. The build is still encouraging Spiked Chain as opposed to greatsword or Greataxe use, but I assume that is deliberate. |
| Maat_Mons01-29-08, 09:35 AM | my only prob her is over powering the attack, figher level 15 20 strength with greatsword and leap attack=12 from sword 5 from strength and 30 from pa-60 after leapattack= 77 per attack then 144 on crits this mean crits happening on every attack would put it to 576 damgae. I feel I should point out that a level 15 fighter doesn’t get four attacks per round. Further he doesn’t have the ability to make a full attack after a charge (and leap attack can only be used on a charge). This puts his charge damage at 77 (or 144 on a critical hit). A charge specialist will generally have a level of barbarian to allow for multiple attacks after a charge and five levels of frenzied berserker for improved power attack. Such a character would get 90 points of damage from power attack and thus deal 107 points of damage per hit with three hits for 321 points of damage. Also note that if Races of Faerun is allowed, the headlong rush feat will double all damage on a charge. (Since you like to look at maximum damage, with headlong rush and critical hits, that’s 1284.) now level 6 fighter and 9 level swm with great sword and leap attack 20 strength= 12 form sword 10 from strength 90 with supreme pa and leap attack= 112x2 for powerful attack=224 then x3 for crit= 672 Overpowering attack is a full-round action. A charge is a full-round action. You only get one full-round action per turn. This makes it impossible to combine overpowering attack with a charge (and thus leap attack). This means the damage multiplier is a non-issue in terms of the balance of charge damage. |
| ultimate_tracker01-29-08, 01:27 PM | yeah for some reason i did over look the fact of charging with the combo of leap attack.... ok what if i do this this powerful attack is a full round action still but can be used in a charge and cleave attampts, but not aoo's. can headlong rushbe used in conjunction with leap attck,,,, just curious i am making a this prc in my friends campaign does that do 2x after or before a crit is put in |
