Okay, so this is my first time creating my own PrC. I wanted to know how it comes out in balance and/or usefulness. I can create flavor around it later, for right now I wanted to know what people think in the way of mechanics and crunch. (Oh, and I also wouldn't be adverse to suggestions for a sexy name for the PrC either ;) )

It's designed to appeal most to rogue-type characters, but fighter types could also gain some useful benefits if they decided to go into the class. I would prefer to keep the class to 5 levels unless it seems to really require a change to 10.

Prerequisites:

BAB: +3
Feats: Improved Feint (and, by extension, Combat Expertise)
Skills: Bluff 4 ranks, Hide 8 ranks, Escape Artist 4 ranks

Lv Base F R W Features
1 +0 0 2 0 Crafty and Cunning
2 +1 0 3 0 Serpent's speed, Sneak attack +1d6
3 +2 1 3 1 Poison use
4 +3 1 4 1 Serpent's speed, Sneak attack +1d6
5 +3 1 4 1 Serpent's strike

Class Skills are the same as a Rogue
Skill Points: 6+int mod

1st level - Crafty and Cunning: The character gains a bonus to Bluff, Craft (Poison), Escape Artist, and Hide checks equal to their levels in this PrC.

2nd level - Serpent's Speed: The character gains a +2 bonus to initiative. This bonus stacks with that provided by the Improved Initiative feat. At 4th level, this bonus increases an additional +2.

At second level, the character also gains a +1d6 sneak attack. This bonus increases to +2d6 Sneak Attack at 4th level. This sneak attack damage stacks with any existing sneak attack damage the character has from other classes.

3rd level - Poison Use: The character no longer risks poisoning themselves when applying poison to a weapon (as the assassin ability of the same name)

5th level - Serpent's Strike: The character can now feint in combat as a swift action instead of as a move action.

EDIT: Forgot the class skills. :p

EDIT: Changed the prerequisites and added teshen's fancy table.

No... full base attack class + 1 level in rogue can get in at level five rather than qualifying at level five... which is an unwritten rule with PrCs... the only example I can think of to this is the master specialist.

Since you're intending this as a roguish prc, raise the skill prerequistes so that a character has to at least reach level five, such as a hide prerequisite of eight ranks. If you want it accessible to fighter types, just make it one skill.

BAB: Rogue

Tables make things so much prettier...
Lv Base F R W Features
1 +0 0 2 0 Crafty and Cunning
2 +1 0 3 0 Serpent's speed, Sneak attack +1d6
3 +2 1 3 1 Poison use
4 +3 1 4 1 Serpent's speed, Sneak attack +1d6
5 +3 1 4 1 Serpent's strike

That said, the first level ability probably adds to too many skills but the idea is sound... the serpent's speed, sneak attack, and poison use are all fine. And the fifth level ability seems, more or less, fine... you'll still only be feinting once a round.

I like it.

Thank you much, teshen! I hadn't thought about that, I think I will bump the hide up to 8 ranks. As for skills that get bonuses, maybe I'll kick Move Silently off the list. I don't think snakes even get any particular bonuses to move silently anyway.

Sorry about the sloppy format, I'm not familiar with how to do fancy things like tables and spoilers. Yours looks very nice.

*Pssssst, look in my sig for a pretty cut/paste and fill-in-the-blank format cheat sheet;) ...

This is a neat PrC. Looks to me like teshen covered pretty much all the bases. All you need is a better name apparently...

Might I suggest something like Mercurial Serpent? Or you could just go with something semi-generic like Serpents Fang, Snake Brother, or Snake Style Rogue.

Just some ideas.

Hmm! Those are some pretty neat names. I'll definitely give them consideration. Thank you!
