Sniper/Ranged specced 3.5 PrC [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-05-07, 01:01 PM I'm looking to finally update an old character of mine from 3.0 who was a deepwood sniper, I'm curious if theres a 3.5 version of this class or a similar PrC or something.

10-05-07, 02:45 PM As far as 3.0 PrC's go, the Deepwood Sniper is actually extremely compatible. It hasn't been officially updated, but searching the boards should yeild a couple of homebrewed 3.5 versions of it.

If I remember, it does some wonky stuff to crit multipliers, which is a 3.5 design no-no. I think that's the biggest issue facing the conversion to 3.5.

Cragtop Archer is most excellent and is forged of win.

I looked at Order of the bow, but the character is more set for being far away instead of having to be 30 ft or 60ft away like the order of the bow PrC.

Also, what book is RoS heh, Doesn't ring a bell.

That would be a pity, as the uber criticals were one of the best things about the DS. Mind you, I wouldn't be as adamant on the crit multiplier thing: other PrCs, like the master thrower, initiate of the draconic mysteries and psychic weapon master iirc do get better multipliers.

This is why I have to change the character, because they changed how crits worked. (or stacked rather)

I'm not seeing a single prestige class that fits the character, I might just stick straight ranger.

10-06-07, 01:38 PM Peerless Archer maybe I don't know a lot about it but most Bow builds in the CO board dip at least a few levels into it.

Deepwood Sniper and so many other 3rd ed PrC's were conveniently forgotten which is a damn shame.
i prefer 3.5 rules, most of them, save cover and the like, but alot of the new PrC's suck or feel inherantly wrong. more of the 3rd ed were iconic historically fantasy wise, but now, they keep coming up w/ these crazy abstract PrCs that don't make alot of sense or are veyr cumbersome w/ so many bells and whistles.

DS is simple, nice, very realistic, easy to play. why the Hell didn't they update it or post errata, something, anything?

i let my brother use his (we're 3.5 now) and there have been zero snags thus far. the autoloading sentient heavy x-box makes for interesting action and i was loathe to say, "sorry mike, you're SOL, they changed editions...again."

if the Crit discrepancy bothers you, i'm sure a comfortable median can be met w/ your DM as it's not a hugely mathematical problem or unbalances campaign. maybe partially cannibalize another archer class. cut n' paste so to speak. good luck.
