Hello Im new to this game and I have been playing some friends lately my character is a sorcerer 1/ monk 1. I dont know if its a good combo but as this is my first game I was just playing what sounded fun and learning the way the game works. I know about prestige classes from NWN and I wanted to know if a good one was around for my character. I was thinking about dragon disciple but from what I have read here they are some what lackluster :( sad because I thought it would work well if I learned spells to increase my state and AC. But I would like to know if a prestige class exists that would fit.

A little info on my character:
Im a drow I have 1 level in both classes>
I would like to use unarmed or maybe kama's if I cant find a prestige class good for unarmed.

I know I wont be taking a prestige class for at least a few more levels but I would just like to plan it out

There is the enlightened fist from the complete arcane. That pretty much combines the two classes.

Also look at the Ascetic mage feat from the complete adventurer(I find the feat very over powered, it combines arcane strike along with negating the need for MAD).

If you have the attributes multi-classing from monk isn't bad at all for a level 1-2 dip. Just buy yourself a decent +wisdom item down the line and you could have a sizeable bonus to AC+improved grapple(that is if you aren't going for enlightened fist) and possibly evasion.

I completely agree with IdleAltruism on this one. However, you will probably end up taking more levels of Sorcerer than of Monk, and since neither of those are your race's favored class, I would recommend asking your DM for the feat which grants an additional favored class on page 100 of Unearthed Arcana. This will get rid of the pesky -20% experience at higher levels.

Enlightened fist. Ascetic mage. Both have been stated. Both are great for this.

If it is not to late you might change to monk/wizard. That would take care of the multi-classing XP problem. Also you can take Carmendine Monk (Champions of Valor pg.28) It allows you to use Int for all your Monk abilities. Also there is Monastic Training (Eberron campaign Setting pg. 57) this allows you multi-class with wizard.

Again these are only suggestions. If you do not like them just ignore them.

If FR, there are monastic orders that allow free multiclass with different combinations.

Its a home brew setting and I dont think my DM is doing the favored classes thing he is just letting us take what ever classes we want with out the -20% as most of the players are new. This game is just to let us learn most of the rules. Next module he will bring in the favored classes I think.

If the DM allows it, you might consider taking the feat Precocious Apprentice from Complete Arcane. This lets you cast a single 2nd level spell once per day if you make a DC 10 caster level check.

Pick Alter Self, and turn into a Troglodyte. They are a good low level unarmed combat form, as they have +6 natural armor and three natural attacks, plus Multiattack as a racial bonus feat.

Is he using the +2 level adjustment for the drow?

Just a helpful reminder to spellcaster monks: You can charge up your body with melee touch spells and deliver them with an unarmed attack. Very powerful

Be careful sickening your party members in trog form though.

I like Arcane Monks, I am playing A Sorcerer/Rogue/Monk/Enlightened Fist/Daggerspell Mage right now, touch attacks galore.

I diagree that Monk/Wizard is stronger than Monk/Sorcerer, mostly because Ascetic Mage (CV) only works with Sorcerer. I also disagree that the feat is overpowered. You get a nerfed version of Arcane Strike and your Monk and Sorcerer levels only stack for AC, not for stunning or anything else. Its balanced.

Go into Enlightened Fist (CA) as soon as possible. The biggest deal I have found is poor BAB (which I have accentuated with prodigeous multiclassing, but my saves rock). A couple of levels of something like Abjurant Champion with Full Caster Progression and Full BAB can help, either on the front end or the back end.

Take your first level in Monk obviously, and I recommend either Battle Sorcerer (UA, I think) or, I like more, Stalwart Sorcerer from CM. The free Weapon Proficiency and Weapon Focus with a martial weapon is great, something like a Guisarme that allows tripping and has reach is perfect for keeping baddies away from you at low levels.

Finally, Google "Enlightened Fist" and read the most excellent Enlightened Fist Handbook/Build Guide.

I agree, enlightened fist/abjurant champion are both very good for a proper monk/sorcerer build. The monk/wizard might appear weaker from the get-go, but if you have Carmendine Monk (FR setting - Champions of Valor) or Kung Fu genius (Dragon, iirc), this changes - both cue MOST of the monk abilities towards intelligence. Alter self allows some pretty nice forms - if Troglodyte is unavailable, lizardman is a very close contender with good NA and natural attacks.

As for drow... seriously, do try to get the LA buyoff rules allowed. That LA+2 is a killer, especially for multiclassed sorcerers.
