If I'm reading this correctly, Kensai can use natural weapons as their signature weapon, so a soulknife's mindblade would work for this. Would I be able to stack the enhancement bonuses from both the Kensai and the soulknife? If so, would this allow me to inbue powers on it not normally accessable from the Mindblade enhancement list? Thanks in advance.

I allow it it my game, but not for the reason you state. I don't think that a Mindblade is a natural weapon. I do think that it is treated as a shortsword (or bastardsword or whatever) for the purposes of feats and PrCs, thus it is treated like any other shortsword. I would require that a Soulknife be of sufficient level to imbue the Mindblade with a minimum of +1 enhancement because the Kensai's weapon must be of at least Masterwork quality (althouth how the requirement for a Masterwork quality weapon interacts with natural weapons, which also may be a Kensai's signature weapon, I am not sure. Can you have masterwork fists?)

Enhancement bonuses won't stack.

Soulknifes cannot use the Kensai's Imbue Weapon ability, because the mindblade is neither a natural weapon or a masterwork weapon. It also would not be that wise to take the PrC, as the enhancement bonuses would not stack, and you would need to take a couple levels before you could do anything. The soulknife by level 8 would give you a +2 mindblade with a +1 ability. You'd need four kensai levels in order to put a single +1 ability on it. In other words, the kensai will only let you advance the weapon beyond what it is already, and you would pay the experience of making it a +4 weapon.

That's why I wouldn't allow it to work. To protect the player from wasting levels.

appreciate the help everyone. Does anyone have a suggestion then for a prestige class for the Soulknife, or should I just stick with it to the end?

Soulknife build guide. (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=372176)

Also, this is more of a psionics question, so the psionics forums would likely have better suggestions... either that or the character optimization board. However, if you head over there (character op), read the faq first and follow the posting guidelines.

If you don't, I take no responsibility for the resulting verbal slaughter... I'll laugh at it, though. :D

Didn't know about this thread. Thanks for the heads up Teshen. Well, that's it for this thread. Later all!

Magic weapons have enhancement bonuses ranging from +1 to +5. They apply these bonuses to both attack and damage rolls when used in combat. All magic weapons are also masterwork weapons, but their masterwork bonus on attack rolls does not stack with their enhancement bonus on attack rolls.
Mindblades have a permanent enhancement bonus of +1 to attack and damage, so are magic, right? All magic weapons are a subcategory of masterwork weapons, no?

If that were true archer, then any character with the VoP would automatically lose their vow after picking up a quaterstaff. Non-master-work. A weapon needs to be masterwork for you to put magic enhancements on it, but not all magic enhanced weapons need to be master work. Examples: VoP characters, soulknifes, and monks with an amulet of mighty fists. They all have magic weapons, but none of them are master work. Also, you don't need a masterwork weapon to cast magic weapon on it.

Vow of Peace? Vow of Poverty? Vow of other P words. Using acronyms where multiple things can be interpreted is dumb.

Also, clubs and quarterstaves have no value...

PPS. Magical enhancement != magical weapon. He is right, magic weapons are a subset of masterwork weapons.

Poverty. I think you could piece together that that was the VoP I was using.

I can list three different ways to have a magical weapon without it being masterwork:
Casting Magic Weapon on a normal weapon.
A monk with an Amulet of Mighty Fists.
A character with the VoPov and a quarter staff.

EDIT: I know they have no value. That's why I used them.

That's where sanity comes in. VoP applies to all attacks and is worded similarly to GMW. A mind blade simply is a +1 weapon.

In any case, there aren't any balance issues with soulknife and kensia.

No overpowering issues, but some underpower ones. The bonuses don't stack. I wouldn't allow it to protect the player. But meh.

That gives you an enhancement bonus to your weapon, it doesn't make the weapon magical. There is a subtle difference.
