If I wanted to get into a prestige class that said "Able to manifest/cast 3rd level spells/powers" or the like, could I get in if I had something like, fireball/or psionic blast for a spell/psi-like ability? It seems like RAW it flies, but I'm not 100% sure, so I wanted to hear your guys' take on it.

Preemptive thanks.

No. Using Psi-like abilities does not qualify you for classes needing spell levels. They do, however, qualify you for classes requiring you cast specific spells.

Seems I missed it verbatim, but to further clarify it says specifically "Ability to manifest a 3rd-level power." That would be a yes? But "Able to manifest 3rd-level powers." would be a no?

You still aren't able to manifest 3rd level powers. Not even one, since you aren't manifesting it (manifesting - using PP to power psionics), you're using a psi-like ability (A per day ability). Using a certain named spell is different. It's been confirmed by WoTC many times (See Complete Arcane) - it explicitly states X-like abilities don't qualify for actually casting spells. This isn't a Complete Psionic prestige class, is it?

Nah, it's the Psychic Weapon Master (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040827d). Was trying to make a build that incorporated all 10 levels of it, plus 4 levels of fighter for Weapon Spec/ Melee Weapon Mastery with my bonded weapon, but I can't fit 7 Psychic warrior (for 3rd level manifesting abilities) with 4 fighter and still get the 10 PWM. But then I thought maybe if I threw phrenic on there and used the 3rd level Psi-like abilities to qualify, I could make the build work under 20 levels, rather than using Fighter/Psion to qualify.

Ah well, guess I'll just have to whip up something different... I'm addicted to 4 level fighter dips though, haha.

Thanks anyways
