| Mark_Constantino05-27-07, 05:24 PM | A duskblade can channel a touch spell into his weapon the same round he attacks. Can the spellsword channel any spell he has into his weapon THE SAME ROUND he attacks? Just to clear up an interesting discussion I'm having. |
| Cold Napalm05-27-07, 09:10 PM | Yes spellswords can attack after then channel assuming that you are next to the target. Spellsword spellchannel is a move action. |
| Magius_Rerecros06-26-07, 12:09 PM | 's right. Also, the Duskblade pretty much es me off. They made the Spellsword as a PrC in Complete Arcane. Then they went and made it as a base class in PHBII. I saw it, and I was like, "Hey, isn't that pretty much a 20-level Spellsword without the dual channeling thing?" I think they're running out of ideas at WotC, since the Duskblade is pretty much a base-class remake of the Spellsword, with some small differences (not much). |

While this is true, one nice thing about Spellsword is that you don't have to take it all the way to 10th level. It's a great dipping class for a gish build. Personally, I like to take it for a maximum of three levels to minimize caster-level loss. This prevents me from ever getting the channel ability, however. The first three levels of spellsword is in every way superior to the first three levels of eldricth knight. Plus, with the ability to ignore 15% arcane spell failure, you can cast in twilight mithril fullplate with no chance of failure. The duskblade, in my opinion, loses too much casting power for me to find it as a viable option. That, and they don't have much utility in their spell list. The duskblade fills a slightly different niche, as more of a heavy damage dealer. |
| Tempest Stormwind06-26-07, 01:51 PM | If you were playing the spellsword as a nuker, I feel sorry for you. The duskblade spell list is 95% DAMAGE, and lots of it. He also has a narrower range of spells that he can channel. It's also a spontaneous caster with a very narrow spells-known list (you're better off using your absurd number of spell slots to power arcane strike). This makes it a very good class for beginners or, to borrow an MtG term, Timmies. (My best friend started gaming a while back, and her words for what she wanted were "[Tempest], I want sword, I want armor, and I want lots and LOTS of FIRE!". Naturally, duskblade is the way to go in that case.) The spellsword expands the existing capabilities of a caster, such as the wizard. This allows for battlefield control (so you fight the enemies on your own terms), buffs (so you kick ass hardcore), utility spells (so you do something out of combat), and more, and you get them faster than the duskblade. The downside is that it's 5/10 casting, but some moron decided to shift its casting boosts to odd levels instead of even levels, meaning that spellsword is a 1-level-dip class only. This leaves room for other, more powerful gish options to round out your character, which also happen to share the same earlier benefits of spellsword. Oh, and if you do get channel spell, you have a far wider range of effects you can channel through it. |
| TheCanadian06-27-07, 02:54 AM | I was just reading up on the Spellsword and it says that you can channel any spell through it, even a spell with an area effect or a ray effect. This is a lot better than the duskblade, who I believe can only channel touch spells. Plus as a Spellsword if the spell you channel is an area spell, it only effects the target...can you say hello FIREBALL? Very cool. And if you need any more reason to like the Spellsword over the Duskblade...the Spellsword drawing > Duskblade drawing. |
