Still trying to make a Brave [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-14-07, 11:08 PM I'm still trying to make a brave class (in case you saw my other post about this a couple of weeks back), but I've decided to take a different approach and make it a prestige class. The thing is, I don't know much about braves. My vision for the class is simple: a powerful fighter with a spirit guide.

I don't have much worked out, but I'll show you what I have. What I need is help filling out the levels a little bit.

Hit Die: d12.
Good Saves: Fort and Ref
Poor Saves: Will
Base Atk: as Fighter
Requirements: I'm still working on this, but I'm thinking at least +5 BAB and some kind of special in game vision quest to receive the spirit guide.

Level 1--Animal Companion/Paladin Special Mount Continues, Spirit Guide (see Spirit Shaman class in Complete Divine)
Level 2--Nothing yet.
Level 3--Follow the Guide ability (again from Complete Divine's Spirit Shaman)

I would write out the Spirit Guide stuff for you, but I don't want to get in trouble, and I don't know what the rules are for stuff like that. Suffice it to say that it's a lot like having a familiar, except the animal only exists in you mind, providing Alertness, and the Follow the Guide ability lets you reroll failed Will saves once, if I recall correctly.

What would you like to see in a class like this? Also, if you know of any brave-like classes out there, or classes with brave-like abilities, please let me know!

While a ranger is probably the first base class I would choose if I were trying to make a brave, I know that the vision quest and spirit guide were important to a brave, and the ranger doesn't have those things.

Maybe what I should make is some kind of substitution level(s) that would grant me those the abilities and flavor I'm after. Do you have any suggestions in that direction (like what to exchange for those abilities)? I'm not giving up on the prestige class, I just want to keep my mind open to other ways of doing this, too.

Well, I'm not so good with sub levels. I've tried, beleive me. Maybe make it something like losing favoured enemy in exchange for... um... something. To do with a spirit quest. Maybe they can go into a trance x times per day, x being the amount of favoured enemies they would have. And the trance would give them insight, so it could help with one check, attack roll, mayeb makes a spirit appear and give you mild help with whatever situation you are in like showing you the way out of a cave or somesuch.

Hey, that sounds not half bad, actually. Maybe I'll use that.
