11-22-07, 09:04 PM Can a sublime chord enter a PrC which requires him to be able to cast 1st, 2nd or 3rd level spells? Because the minimum level of spells known by a sublime chord is 4.

11-22-07, 11:27 PM How are you getting into Sublime Cord without meeting the "Able to cast 3rd-level arcane spells." rereq? If you can't do that then Sublime Chord doesn't give you ANY spellcasting.

11-23-07, 11:09 AM I think this is a wierd loophole in prestige class wording. As long as you meet the prerequisites, and it doesnt say " +1 level of (class X) spellcasting" (or divine or arcane depending on how badly you want to abuse it) you can apply the additional level of spellcasting ability to any spellcasting class you have.

At least, I think this is RAW. Im certain that if I'm wrong 4 or 5 people will post and inform us :P

In almost all cases the answer would be YES. Those "+1 level" advancements need to apply to a previous spellcasting class progression but as long as you are advancing the right type you normally can freely choose which class to apply it to. If looking a Sublime Chord with classes like Mystic Theurge or Flouchan Lyrist it is perfectly legal for those classes to advance the Chord's spellcasting although some consider it poor taste.

Sublime Chord and Ur-Priest can often be used with other PrCs to get their high spellcasting abilities without actually devoting many levels to the specific PrC.

11-24-07, 07:23 AM Some PrCs say specifically what kind of spellcasting is advanced, while other don't. For example, Lyric Thaumaturge (Complete Mage) advances only Bard spellcasting, iirc.
But Master of the Yuirwood (Unapproachable East) seems specifically designed to advance either Ranger or Druid spellcasting. The rules text says nothing of the kind, though ("+1 level of existing spellcasting class"), so you could conceivably meet the prerequisites for MotY with Sorcerer levels, then advance in MotY for full spellcasting, 3/4 BAB, d8 HD and good skills...
