Currently, I have been considering taking 2 levels in Monk and making him into a Sacred fist at around level 8. Needless to say I'd lose a couple of levels of spell progression, but the bonus to BaB, AC and all saves could be really useful. My character is an earth shugenja and will be primarily concerned with healing and buffing. The main reason I was attracted to the Sacred Fist was due to their overall great stat progression and their decent spell progression to boot. It also fits thematically that a shugenja would be drawn to being a Monk (being raised in a monestary and all), so that works too. However, some people have suggested to me that I should concern myself more with pure spellcasting and perhaps invest in a level in Cleric for the armours. Though this makes sense from a min-max point of view, well, if I wanted to be a Cleric, I would have made a cleric. Another option was to either go Void Disciple (which seems to be the "natural" fit for a Shugenja) or a Contemplative. By going Void Disciple, I would suffer the same spell progression as I would by going Sacred Fist, but instead of the ability to fight, I would have nifty void skills, whose use I'm not even too sure of. Contemplative would be the all out caster path, but I would still have to be sure to stay on the back lines. Also, if I go Contemplative, should I still take a level in Fighter/Cleric in order to get the armor proficiencies? If there are any other PrCs out there that you guys think might benefit me, please let me know. My main goal is to preserve a certain Oriental Flavour to my character, without going so far as for it to be a liability to my group or to my character's survivability. Cha and Dex are my highest stats at 16, with the next in line being Wis. Suggestions for feats/equip/etc will be welcome too. Thanks in advance! |

Plus, you will find a good alternative to the usual heavily armored "tank" cleric. Aside from that, I suppose it depends on what your characters role is and what exactly you worship. Harper priest (MoF) or Divine disciple (PGtF) can both be relatively generic and quite stable choices imo. Sacred fist is definitely useful, and, if you want to go for a more cloistered cleric, imo divine oracle can be also nice. |

Taking a level in Harper Priest for the armour, blessing and Harper knowledge might be fun, then I can go into Contemplative for the rest. That'll be for a full caster build. Otherwise, I think I'm going to stick to my Sacred Fist idea. Won't be an awesome spellcaster, but I should be able to handle myself just fine. :D |
