| Miakoda07-30-07, 01:33 PM | I have a paladin starting at level 5 to join an established campaign. I'd like to enter a prestige class before too many more levels, but I am not sure what direction I want to go. I have already taken two variants, one to give up my mount for charging smite and another to give up spellcasting for certain extra feats. Any suggestions for prestige classes? |
| baronvonboxy07-30-07, 01:41 PM | Grey Guard. Lets you work with evil to a degree. |
| Marcus Majarra07-30-07, 04:04 PM | I guess it really depends on what you want to do. |
| The_Shaman07-31-07, 02:32 AM | I agree with Marcus. What do you want your character to do? What kind of allies and enemies do you expect to have? I personally am a fan of the Pious Templar from CDivine, but you might not like its flavor or abilities - for some characters, even something as exotic as Singh Rager can be much more appropriate. |
| Miakoda08-01-07, 01:45 PM | I want to be the tank. In game, my paladin thinks of herself as the defender of the defenseless. She wants to be able to stand between her companions and any threat. As for enemies, the world is dracocentric, even what would otherwise be considered mundane animals are likely to have a draconic template on them for fun and profit. We have fought some undead as well. Undead dragon = fun for the whole family. Hope that is helpful. |
| Legdiwena08-01-07, 02:05 PM | Vassal of Bahamut or Dwarven Defender |
| Miakoda08-01-07, 02:33 PM | is there anywhere online to get more info about and a description of the Vassal of Bahamut prestige class? |
| Legdiwena08-01-07, 02:54 PM | Protected content, go to bookstore and look at Book of Exalted Deeds though. Basically you serve good dragons and get some nice bonuses against evil ones. |
| Jaxgaret08-01-07, 07:21 PM | Vassal of Bahamut or Fist of Raziel. |
| Vanulf08-02-07, 06:17 PM | Kensai from Complete Warrior |
| Magius_Rerecros08-02-07, 06:27 PM | There's a whole slew of things. Just as a few examples: Vassal of Bahamut, Platinum Knight, Mythic Exemplar, Ordained Champion, Sanctified One, Shadowstriker, Squire of Legend, Justicar, Knight of the Chalice, Knight Protector, Cavalier, Dervish, Kensai, Divine Crusader, Holy Liberator (if Paladin of Freedom), Shining Blade of Heironeous, or Church Inquisitor. |
| Legdiwena08-02-07, 06:37 PM | Where is Platinum Knight from and can you give a brief summary without violating license? |
| Magius_Rerecros08-02-07, 06:40 PM | Platinum Knight is in Draconomicon. You basically get some natural armor bonuses, save bonuses, charisma bonus, frightful presence immunity, and evil dragon smiting. |
| Arniha08-02-07, 07:26 PM | I'd go for either Greyguard (Complete Scoundrel, best book ever) or Shadowbane Inquisitor (Complete Adventurer) The former allows more killy and cheaper atonement, the latter lets you smite anything that you judge to be corrupt. ANYTHING. You can judge a great wyrm gold dragon that has saved millions of lives to be corrupt, and smite it. (Then you can die because you're level nine and you just attacked a freaking great wyrm.) |
| Magius_Rerecros08-03-07, 11:12 AM | Arniha's got a point there. |
| Jaxgaret08-04-07, 01:45 AM | Platinum Knight is in Draconomicon. You basically get some natural armor bonuses, save bonuses, charisma bonus, frightful presence immunity, and evil dragon smiting. That could dovetail nicely into Vassal of Bahamut, which gets Platinum Armor. |
| Garonak08-04-07, 04:17 AM | If you're concept is to protect you're allies then Knight Protector from Comp Warrior might be an option. Requires that you either take a fighter lvl or play human if you want to enter the class before lvl 10 (massive feat preq). You could also consider Warpriest from comp divine. You get som nice healing abilities, but you keep the d10 hd and good ba. |
| Molot08-04-07, 11:09 AM | In a world where many animals and monsters has draconic blood, you should check if smiting dragons works against them. On halfdragons it does, btw. If it works on them - go for anything that let you smite them. If not, concentrate on general defenses and avoiding fear auras. Dragonfriend feat might be worth it's price too - good draconic beings recognizing you as their friend in a world like that - yummy. And if you are small, see the Draconomicon for rules about having a dragon as a Paladin's mount. Both of this, and you hardly need any PrC to make your concept. |
| The_Shaman08-05-07, 09:48 AM | I would vote for Pious Templar from CDiv. Free weapon specialization (weapon mastery, anyone?), bonus feats, spellcasting that gives you more in 10 levels than paladin does in 17, extra smiting and a little damage reduction. Oh yeah, and mettle - with a good fortitude and will save - can help you a lot. At first, it works for inflict and the like, but there are some hellish spells out there that involve partial fortitude or will saves. For a tank, you could do a lot worse, particularly if the DM includes relic weapons or armor in your campaign. Other interesting options might include the Hospitaller (CDiv) and Fist of Raziel (BOED) are cool, especially for paladin/caster multiclasses (cleric or Favoured Soul), and, if you do not mind not increasing the magical powers, the Hammer of Moradin (PGtF). A Dwarven paladin can't go wrong with the hammer imo - it gives a lot of stuff that the Defender will give you, only you can actually move every now and then. An interesting take on the issue would imo be the Singh Rager from OA (updated in Dragon 318). Rage, Charisma synergy and some extra mobility (pounce, for crying out loud!) can be a good addition to your combat skills. |
