Swiftblade....? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-06-07, 02:54 PM Is the swiftblade PrC as cool as I think it is?
Has anyone ever played this class?
I know you can't use haste to cast spells but it just seems cool to move that fast and almost always go first in combat. Also you don't lose to many caster levels. And you just keep getting faster!!

06-06-07, 05:38 PM The new version is neat-O, and playable unlike the original. Unfortunately you can't fit in the 5th level of Abjurant Champion and the 10th level of Swiftblade into one build. My advice for a good build is Sor6/Swiftblade10/Abjurant Champion4

06-06-07, 05:49 PM The Swiftblade (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20070327) is a very solid prestige class, particularly for gish (arcane warrior) characters. When you look through the class, you see that they have a lot of powerful special abilities (50% miss chance vs attacks and single-target spells, add spellccasting mod to initiative, haste as a free action, free freedom of movement and cast two spells in one round without Quicken Spell!). Toss this on a very solid base chassis and you're cooking with gas. Granted, you have to sacrifice caster levels for these very potent benefits (avoid level 10, IMO; you want 9th-level spells, despite the sexiness of time stop), but the Swiftblade is well worth it.

If you're using a sorcerer, you forfeited 9th-level spells by taking a 7th level of swiftblade. So, for a sorcerer better go all the way to level 10.

06-07-07, 09:20 PM It's a flavorfull class and seems realy cool but is not worth 10 levels even for a gish since you would lose 9th level spells.

06-09-07, 02:51 PM Hmm i think i would rather have a quickened time stop and forfeit the other 9th level spells. You give up wish but you still have limted wish at 7th level; you give up shape change (which hurts) but i wouldnt miss any others. Besides i dont think your DM would complain about losing the most broken spells (shape change, disjunction, Gate) in the game.

True enough. Yet another reason why I almost never use sorcerers in my spellcasting builds.
