Fiends: Demons and devils. Vile, evil extra planar beings with a horrific intelligence that seeks to steal the souls of man and plan for millennia invasions of mass scales. Legends of holy heroes vanquishing the intruders and saving the day are told throughout the land. However, there are few stories told of the heroes fighting the fiends on their own planes of existence; At least, no successful tales. A few tales of fiend hunters how been told of heroes who have taken up that task and survived have been told. But those are just stories, right? Fiend hunters walk this treacherous path. Whether it is a personal vendetta or a holy calling, the fiend hunter is unwavering in his or her quest to kill or banish each and every demon or devil they come upon without mercy. Most fiend hunters are ranger or paladins, but a large amount of clerics also join the ranks of the fiend hunter. However, it's not completely unheard of for other classes to take up the calling if they have lost loved ones to fiends. Requirements To qualify to become a fiend hunter, a character must fulfill all of the following criteria. Skills: Knowledge (the planes) 2 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 2 ranks, Survival 2 ranks. Feats: Track Languages: Abyssal and Infernal Alignment: Any good Spellcasting: Must be able to cast divine spells. Base Attack Bonus: 5 or greater. Game Rule Information The fiend hunter has the following game statistics. Hit Die: d10 Saving Throws: As cleric Base Attack Bonus: As fighter Class Skills: The fiend hunter's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Escape Artist (Dex), Heal (Wis), Jump (Str), Knowledge (all skills taken individually) (Int), Listen (Wis), Search (Int), Spellcraft (Int), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), Swim (Str), and Tumble (Dex). Skill Points at Each Level: 4 + Int modifier. Table: Fiend Hunter Level BAB Fort Ref Will Special 1st +1 +2 +0 +2 Favored Enemy +2, Overcome Spell Resistance 2nd +2 +3 +0 +3 Sacred Body, Antisummoning Aura 3rd +3 +3 +1 +3 Skill Focus, Good domain 4th +4 +4 +1 +4 Favored Enemy +2, Fiend Defense +2 5th +5 +4 +1 +4 Holy Weapon 6th +6 +5 +2 +5 Planar Alignment 7th +7 +5 +2 +5 Favored Enemy +2 8th +8 +6 +2 +6 Fiend Defense +4 9th +9 +6 +3 +6 Slippery Mind 10th +10 +7 +3 +7 Favored Enemy +2, Banishing Blow Level Spells Per Day 1 - 2 +1 3 - 4 +1 5 - 6 +1 7 - 8 +1 9 - 10 +1 Class Features: Weapon and Armor Proficiency A fiend hunter is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, and with light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields). Favored Enemy: At 1st level, a fiend hunter gains the favored enemy ability for demons and devils (each are sub-groupings of Evil Outsiders). The fiend hunter gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks when using these skills against creatures of this type. Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against such creatures. At 4th level and every three levels thereafter, the bonuses against demons and devils increases by 2. Unlike the favored enemy of other classes, if a specific creature falls into more than one category of favored enemy, the bonuses stack. (For example a level 5 ranger/level 1 fiend hunter with favored enemies evil outsiders +2, chaotic outsiders +2, and fiends +2 would have a +6 bonus versus a demon.) Sacred Body (Su): A fiend hunter is wary of the insidious and vile tactics that fiends employ. The fiend hunter gets a sacred bonus equal to half his or her class level (rounded up) against saves versus disease, fear, poison, and stunning, as well as to any spell with the Evil descriptor. Overcome Spell Resistance (Ex): A fiend hunter's spells have a knack to find their mark against their hated foes; add a bonus equal to class level to caster level checks to overcome the spell resistance of any demon or devil. Anti-summoning Aura (Su): A fiend hunter has an undetectable aura that foils summoning abilities of demons and devils. Any fiend that tries to use a summoning ability within 60 feet of the fiend hunter suffers a -5% penalty to the ability. If the fiend could automatically summon more fiends, it does so with a 95% chance instead. Spells per Day For every other fiend hunter level gained (starting at 2nd level); the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in a spellcasting class he belonged to before adding the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained, except for an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming an fiend hunter, he must decide to which class he adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day. Skill Focus: A fiendhunter gains Skill Focus: Knowledge (The Planes) as a bonus feat. Good Domain: A fiendhunter gains access to the Good Domain. If she already has it, the caster level bonus granted by it increases by +1. Fiendish Defense (Ex): At 4th level, a fiend hunter gets a +2 dodge bonus against attacks and a +2 insight bonus on saves against abilities used by fiends. This bonus increases to +4 at 8th level. Holy Weapon (Su): Against a fiend in combat, a fiend hunter is a holy bastion of retribution. Any weapon wielded by a fiend hunter is considered a Good weapon to determine if it can penetrate damage reduction. Planar Alignment: A fiend hunter has the instinctive ability to mimic the dominant alignment of the plane. You incur none of the penalties for having an alignment at odds with that of the plane, and spells and abilities that harm those of the opposite alignment don’t affect you. You have the dominant alignment of the plane with regard to magic, but your behavior and any alignment-related Class Features you have are unaffected. Slippery Mind (Ex): This ability represents the fiend hunter's ability to wriggle free from magical effects that would otherwise control or compel her. If a fiend hunter with is affected by an enchantment spell or effect and fails her saving throw, she can attempt it again 1 round later at the same DC. She gets only this one extra chance to succeed on her saving throw. Banishing Blow (Su): A fiend hunter has the ability to banish fiends with a terrific blow. Whenever a fiend is hit by a critical hit by a fiend hunter, the fiend must make a Will save (Character Level + Wis. Modifier + 5) or be Banished; as per the Banishment spell. Spell resistance does not apply. This ability doesn't work on the fiend's home plane. A fiend hunter may banish a maximum HD of fiends per day equal to twice character level + Wis. modifier or twice caster level +Wis. modifier (whichever is higher). The Epic Fiend Hunter Level Special 11 - 12 Fiendish Defense +6 13 Favored Enemy +2, Bonus Feat 14 - 15 - 16 Favored Enemy +2, Fiendish Defense +8, Bonus Feat 17 - 18 - 19 Favored Enemy +2, Bonus Feat 20 Fiendish Defense +10 HD: d10 Spells: +1 for every even numbered level. Fiendish Defense: Save bonus = 1/2 class level (rounded up) as usual Banishing Blow: The fiend hunter counts only half his or her class levels beyond 10th when determining the DC to resist this attack and the maximum amount of fiends to be banished each day. Favored Enemy: At 13th level and every 3 levels after, and epic fiend hunter's favor enemy bonuses against fiends increase by 2. Bonus Feats: The fiend hunter gains a bonus feat (selected from the list of epic fiend hunter feats) every four levels after 10th. | DX205208-30-07, 02:00 PM | Fiendish lore lacks an ability ageist Tieflings, and IMHO should have one. |
| imakuni6708-30-07, 05:17 PM | Tieflings are descendants of evil outsiders, they aren't devils or demons, nor are they necessairly descended from them. All demons and devils are a subgrouping of evil outsiders with specific abilities they all share, and that is what this class is all about. Also, are there any other OGL demons or devils other than what is in the Monster Manual? Anything would be welcomed! |
| imakuni6708-30-07, 06:58 PM | Please prove me wrong that this class isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread, otherwise I'll think it is. ;) I was considering adding/swapping a smite ability and a bonus Good domain, or even a prestige domain. I don't want to weigh done the class though and think it's pretty well balanced right now. Again, PEACH please! |
| imakuni6709-01-07, 01:09 PM | :bump: for PEACH, please! |
| imakuni6710-22-07, 09:28 AM | big update! Please re-peach :bump: |
| imakuni6710-24-07, 01:41 PM | Pretty Please? |
| Windspear10-24-07, 01:51 PM | Pretty Please? Alright, alright, I'm coming, I'M COMING!! I think the class has a nice concept, and is pretty balanced. One thing I don't get: What do you mean BAB+5 or ability to cast 5th level arcane spells? Don't you mean and? And by the way, no. I've seen far better things since sliced bread. |
| imakuni6710-25-07, 11:10 AM | And by the way, no. I've seen far better things since sliced bread. How about that vibrating knife that cuts a slice of bread in half? "You can't make a slice of a slice!!!!" :D Proved her wrong! Actually, I screwed the requirements up a lot, I'll fix them here in a second. |
