| Ciscolii07-31-07, 10:11 AM | The Golden Clover “Don’t worry. As long as you stay near me, I will shield you from harm.” – Sir Cedric, Protector of Tritham The Golden Clover are a Group of defensive specialist that made it their task to protect the poor. They train in using a shield for defence. A member of the Golden Clover can easily be recognized by the Golden (three-leaf) Clover that decorates his shield. Fighter, knights and paladins are most common among the ranks of the Golden Clover. Other classes aren’t suited for the class. Requirements To qualify to become a golden clover, a character must fulfil all the following criteria. Base Attack Bonus: +5 Skills: Diplomacy 4 ranks Feats: Deflect Arrows, Shield Specialization (heavy) Special: Save a helpless ally or NPC from death. Table: The Golden Clover Hit Die: d10 Level Base Attack Bonus Fort Ref Will Special 1st +1 +2 +0 +0 Tower shield specialization, improved shield specialization 2nd +2 +3 +0 +0 Protect allies +1/+2 3rd +3 +3 +1 +1 Taunt 4th +4 +4 +1 +1 Protect allies +2/+3 5th +5 +4 +1 +1 Deflect magic, superior shield specialization 6th +6 +5 +2 +2 Protect allies +3/+4 7th +7 +5 +2 +2 Sentinel 8th +8 +6 +2 +2 Protect allies +4/+5 9th +9 +6 +3 +3 Reflect magic 10th +10 +7 +3 +3 Protect allies +5/+6, shield mastery Class Skills (4 + Int modifier per level): Climb, Diplomacy, Handle Animal, Intimidate, Jump, Knowledge (nobility and royalty), Ride, Sense Motive, Swim. Class Features All of the following are class features of the golden clover prestige class. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Golden clover gain no proficiency with any weapon or armour. They do gain proficiency with the tower shield. Tower Shield Specialization: Golden clover are specially trained in the use of tower shields. As such a golden clover can treat the tower shield as a heavy shield with respect for the use of feats. Further more their training allows them to ignore the -2 penalty on attack rolls when fighting with a tower shield. Improved Shield Specialization: Their training with shields of any kind allows them to make better use of them. A golden clover wearing a shield for which it has Shield Specialization adds a +1 bonus to its shield bonus to armour class. This bonus stacks with that from Shield Specialization. Furthermore the shields armour check penalty is reduced by 2 points, to a minimum of +0. In addition to the bonus to armour class a golden clover can use its shield to deflect arrows with the Deflect Arrows feat. Protect Allies: A golden clover training isn’t all about protecting yourself but about protecting the weak. Starting at 2nd level all allies adjacent to a golden clover wielding a shield gain a +1 shield bonus to their armour class. An ally wearing a shield gains an additional +1 bonus. These bonuses increase with +1 every two levels as shown on the table. Taunt: One way to protect your allies is to draw foes to you. As a free action you can taunt one foe. The target must have an Intelligence score of at least 5 and must be able to hear and see you. The target must succeed on a Will save (DC = 10 + class level + Cha modifier). If it fails its save it must attack you to the best of its abilities. At any time you can taunt no more creatures than your Charisma modifier. Deflect Magic: A golden clover can use its shield to deflect magical ranged attacks in the same manner as he would deflect arrows. If a ray is deflected this way is will hit the nearest legal target for the spell. Superior Shield Specialization: As a golden clover gains experience he learns to use his shield even better to protect him. A golden clover wearing a shield for which it has Shield Specialization adds a +1 bonus to its shield bonus to armour class. This bonus stacks with that from Shield Specialization and Improved Shield Specialization. Furthermore the shields armour check penalty is reduced by an additional 2 points, to a minimum of +0. In addition to the bonus to armour class a golden clover can use its shield to deflect arrows and with the Deflect Arrows feat and Deflect Magic special ability a number of times per round equal to its Dexterity modifier. This Dexterity modifier is restricted by armour and shields. Sentinel: Starting from 7th level a golden clover can protect his allies from harm. This ability works exactly the same as the Knight’s Improved Shield Ally class feature. See page 28 of the PHBII. Reflect Magic: A golden clover can use its shield to reflect ray attacks back to its caster. This requires a ranged touch attack from the golden clover against the touch AC of the caster. If it hits the caster is affected by the spell. Shield Mastery: A golden clover has honed his skills with the shield to such an extend that while wearing a shield he is nearly impossible to hit. A golden clover wearing a shield for which it has Shield Specialization adds a +1 bonus to its shield bonus to armour class. This bonus stacks with that from Shield Specialization, Improved Shield Specialization and Superior Shield Specialization. Furthermore the shields armour check penalty is reduced by an additional 2 points, to a minimum of +0. In addition to the bonus to armour class a golden clover does not suffer the indicated Maximum Dexterity restriction of his tower shield. A golden clover using its tower shield for total cover can make one attack at a -5 penalty. EDIT Multiclass notes: A paladin who becomes a golden clover may continue advancing in its original class. |
| Miscaleous07-31-07, 02:23 PM | Finally a Tower-shield PrC, and tempting to play as well. The deflect and reflect would be exciting to use since you'd be defensive for the most part in combat, so that's a nice touch. |
