Hey, I am looking into making a Jade Pheonix Mage for an upcomfing arena style battle we are doing. The character is going to be 20th level. I am just wondering what everyone else thinks of this class. It seems like it would be pretty nice to me, especially if combined with something like the Abjurant Champion. Any responses and help are greatly appreciated! Thanks y'all!

The only time I've played one was in a similar situation. It was a one time level 20 massive battle where we were the heroes of both sides (elf and dwarf).

I was a Duskblade 9/Crusader 1/Jade Phoenix Mage 10 or something. The only problem is that I had so many maneuvers, spells and stances that I didn't know what was the best to use most of the time. I remember was there was fire: lots and lots of fire.

Can you use the Duskblade's Arcane Channeling with a Martial Adepts maneuvers? Or did you just combine the boosts with it?

Any other ideas on this class?

I had a build a while ago for a Jade Phoenix Mage... I think it was Bard6/LT2/MartialAdept1/JPM1/SC2/JPM8. Feel free to alter it for your arena battle.

I was thinking Battle Sorcerer 6/Jade Pheonix Mage 10/Abjurant Champion 4

It's kind of wasteful to use extra feats to qualify for JPM, i.e. not take a level as a Martial Adept.

But other than that, it's a pretty decent build.

First, while this is as good a place as any other, maybe you could take a look at the Character Optimization Boards. They will sure help you a lot.

This is my JPM based character. Use it if you like to ^^:

1-bard
2-bard
3-bard
4-bard
5-Crusader
6-Spellsword
7-Abjurant Champion
8-Jade Phoenix Mage
9-Jade Phoenix Mage
10-Warblade or Crusader (I prefer Warblade)
11-Sublime Chord
12-Sublime Chord
13-Jade Phoenix Mage
14-Jade Phoenix Mage
15-Jade Phoenix Mage
16-Jade Phoenix Mage
17-Jade Phoenix Mage
18-Jade Phoenix Mage
19-Jade Phoenix Mage
20-Jade Phoenix Mage

Race: Human. Maybe, Illuminian for some Str synergy with spellcasting

Nice Feats:
-Combat Casting, Arcane Strike (remember that Arcane Wrath doesn't work on full attacks or AoO), Smitting Spell.

I know it can be wasteful to do this. However, we are allowed 2 flaws, so that can help me take care of the prereqs right away at first level. I am trying to keep my caster level as high as possible. The way it is here, this gives me a BAB of 18 and a CL of 18, if I did the math right. Although now that I think of it, it probably wouldn't be too bad to go with Battle Sorcerer 5/Warblade or Swordsage 1/Jade Pheonix Mage 10/Abjurant Champion 4. The only problem is that I don't think I would have access to 9th level spells.

The flaws can be used for better things if you don't use them to qualify for JPM - such as Practiced Spellcaster to get your CL up to 20.

That is why I suggested using Sublime Chord, a la the build I posted above - you get 9th levels spells and a +16 BAB, and a few free levels after Bard and before SC to absorb both the single Martial Adept level and the first JPM level, neither of which advance spellcasting progression.

I'm not saying I don't like your build, just that I am not good with bards, and do not particularly care for the class that much. But I do appreciate your input and thank you for your ideas. I am just looking a little more martially focused
