Some of us are here to do good and some of us are here to do bad. Me? Well, I do whatever it takes to become stronger. Whether it be helping the poor or murdering a friend." -Kerlin Shax, a Shadoo The darkness is a very mysterious path. It isn't filled with evil nor with good. It may not have a very strong alignment, but that path is filled with the deeds of both charity and murder. This shady path is only chosen by those who are willing to accept the many risk associated with this class. Most people call them Death Knights or The Damned. Even so, they are known everywhere with one certain name: the Shadoo Hit Dice: d10 Requirements To qualift to become a shadoo, a character must fulfill the following criteria. Base Attack Bonus: +6 Weapon Proficiency: A two-handed weapon Feats: Shadow Proficiency Class Skills The shadoo's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Hide (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), and Move Silently (Dex) Skill Points at Each Level: 6 + Intelligence modifier. Class Features All of the following are features of this prestige class. Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Shadoos gain no proficiencies with any weapons or armor. Shadow Body: A Shadoo's body is different than other humanoid creatures. Even though it resides on the material plane, it is fainter than most objects. Because of this, a Shadoo has a +3 dodge to armor class. At 10th level a Shadoo's body grows even fainter giving a +6 to armor class. A Shadoo cannot attack with the full power of a normal humanoid. She has a -2 on all natural attacks. Also, because of her lighter body weight, she can only use light and medium armor. Shadowsight: A Shadoo's eyes are unlike all others. They are pitch black giving her a greater vision than most humanoids. She is able to see up to 30 ft. in complete darkness. At 5th level this ability extends to 60 ft. and at 10th level it is at 90 ft. Shadow Target: At 3rd level a Shadoo learns how to attack an opponent’s shadow instead of his physical form. Once per day she can replace a normal action with a touch attack. This attack deals normal damage. Piercing Shadow: At 4th level a Shadoo is able to use her shadow to pierce her enemies' defense. Three times per day she can use a free action to pierce an opponent’s armor class. This ability lowers her opponent’s armor class by 1 per two Shadoo levels and can only be used with a piercing or slashing weapon. Shadow Forms: A Shadoo has specific forms, which define her mood, abilities, and level. At new levels she gains more powerful forms with stronger abilities. She can only use one form from each table. Normal: Before 5th level, a Shadoo is always in her normal form. This form has no special qualities. Battle Forms: At 5th level, a Shadoo gains these battle forms. These can only bet activated in an ecounter and last until the encounter is over.Offensive: In her offensive form, a Shadoo gains a +4 to all her attacks and to her damage. Speed: In her speed form, a Shadoo is proficient with dealing quick blows. She acquires a -4 to all attacks but gains an extra standard action each turn. This extra action can only be used for an attack. Defensive: In her defensive form, a Shadoo is defending herself at all costs. Her objective is mainly to escape or to wait out the damage. She gains a +4 dodge bonus to her armor class. Tactician: In her tactical form, a Shadoo is an expert at thinking up quick strategies against her opponents. She adds her intelligence bonus instead of her strength bonus to all of her attacks. Secure: In her secure form, a Shadoo is very over protective. Because of this, she takes a -2 to all of her attacks but gains a +2 for all of her saves (fort, ref, and will.)Moody Forms: At 7th level a Shadoo goes into an uncomfertable state. She is able to go into different moods to affect her abilities. These forms last untill her mood fades.Angry: When a Shadoo is angry, this form is triggered. While in this form, all of her enemies within 20 ft. are under the effects of the fear spell. Berserk: When a Shadoo is extremely angry, this form is triggered. She goes extreme rage against her enemies. Treat this form as a barbarian’s rage ability. Unhappy: When a Shadoo is depressed, this form is automatically triggered. She looses the will to attack enemies and gains a -4 to all of her attacks and to damage. All her enemies within 20ft. take a -2 on all attacks, damage, saves, and checks. Joyful: When a Shadoo is extremely happy, this form is triggered. She gains a temporary +3 to her strength score. Embaressed: When a Shadoo is irregularly embarrassed, this form is triggered. She takes a penalty of -4 to her attack but gains a +6 dodge bonus to her armor class.Aligned Forms: At 9th level a Shadoo is in complete tranquillity. She gains different forms according to her alignment. These forms last as long as her alignment does.Kind-Hearted (Lawful Good / Chaotic Good / Neutral Good): While this form is active, a Shadoo's chest has a deep red heart with white along the edges. This "heart" is always visible and is etherial. While in this form a Shadoo gains a +2 Charisma inheritance bonus. Neutral: While this form is active, a Shadoo appears exactly same as she did before. She gains a +2 Wisdom inheritance bonus. Evil (Lawful Evil / Neutral Evil): While this form is active, a Shadoo's "heart" appears to be purple with black spots covering it. She gains a +2 Intelligence inheritance bonus. Insane (Chaotic Evil): While this form is active, a Shadoo is the worst of the worst. She goes around killing every weakling in sight and takes no pride in her good deeds. Her heart is a solid black with pink scratches on it. She stays with the party to gain greater power. She also gains a +2 Constitution inheritance bonus. Infuse Shadow (Sp): At 6th a Shadoo gains the ability of infusing her shadows into her spells. At will, she is able to change the element of her spells to shadow. A shadow spell deals an extra 1-point of Wisdom damage. For example, a cone of cold that deals shadow damage. Shadow's Blade (Sp): At 7th level a Shadoo gains the ability of infusing her weapons with her shadowy powers. She must perform a ritual, which takes a total amount of time equal to 24 hours. When she is done, her weapon of choice gains the shadow element. This element deals 1d6 extra shadow damage (x1.5 against undead). This damage does not stack with any other elements. Shadow Features: At 9th level a Shadoo undergoes a special transformation. While she is sleeping, her features fade away. Her hair turns a transparent black along with the rest of her body. Only her facial features and her outline can be seen with her body. People can still see her body, just not her other features (i.e. nails, body hair, etc.). With this change, she gains a +6 on all Hide and Disguise Self checks. New Feats: Shadow Proficiency: [Special] You are proficient in dealing with the shadows. Prerequisites: Con 14, Must take the shadow oath Benefit: You have a +2 bonus on all abilites against shadows other than yourself. |
| Ultima007109-16-07, 01:05 PM | This class needs to be playtested. If interested contact me by Private Message. Also, I want ROLEPLAYERS, not min/maxers. This class could be extremely powerful, but it isn't meant for that purpose. |
| Mordin09-16-07, 05:12 PM | I have to say I like the idea the concept is cool. Requirements To qualift to become a shadoo, a character must fulfill the following criteria. Base Attack Bonus: +12 Weapon Proficiency: A two-handed weapon Feats: Shadow Proficiency Any PrC you cannot finish before epic levels is bad form thou. I would lower BAB to +10 or less. Class Skills The shadoo's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Diplomancy (Cha), Disguise (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Intimidate (Cha), and Move Silently (Dex) Skill Points at Each Level: 6 + Intelligence modifier. Why Diplomacy and not Hide and with so few skills why 6 + Int mod? Diplomacy seems to have nothing to do with this class. Shadow Body: A Shadoo's body is different than other humanoid creatures. Even though it resides on the material plane, it is feinter than most objects. Because of this, a Shadoo has a +3 natural bonus to armor class. Also because of this, a Shadoo has a -2 on all damage rolls with natural weapons. Her body also gives her damage reduction 3 to all bludgent weapons. At 10th level a Shadoo's body grows even feinter giving a +6 to armor class, -4 to natural damage, and damage reduction 6 to all bludgent weapons. This ability is cool but I would restrict what kind of armor he/she can wear. Say after the first change the shadoo can only use medium armor then light and so on. Shadowsight: A Shadoo's eyes are unlike all others. They are pitch black giving her a greater vision than most humanoids. She is able to see up to 30 ft. in complete darkness. At 5th level this ability extends to 60 ft. and at 10th level it is at 90 ft. Fine Shadow Target: At 3rd level a Shadoo's eyesight greatly improves. Because of her new ability, she is able to pinpoint where the opponent is going to move next. Once per day times her level she is able to make a free action to predict where her opponent is going to move. This gives her a +3 to all attack rolls until the next turn. Maybe say that by reading his/her opponents shadow he/she can predict the targets next move. Make it a single attack that is resolved as a touch attack JMO. Piercing Shadow: At 4th level a Shadoo is able to use her shadow to pierce her enemies' defense. At will, a Shadoo can produce a shadow light spear. If this spear hits an enemy, he looses all his armor and shield bonuses for 1d4 rounds. I would limit this somehow perhaps a number of times per day equal to his/her Cha or Int. At will is just to powerful. Shadow Forms: A Shadoo has specific forms which define her mood, abilities, and level. At new levels she gains more powerful forms with stronger abilities. She can use up to three forms at once as long as they are from different levels. This is an interesting ability. I would limit the amount of forms a shadoo can use all at once or add some more forms to each list. The battle forms can come accross as boring if there are only three and you get to choose all of them at 5th level. Shadow Forms Normal: Before 5th level, a Shadoo is always in her normal form. This form has no special qualities. Battle Forms: At 5th level, a Shadoo gains these battle forms. These can only bet activated in an ecounter and last until the encounter is over. Offensive: In her offensive form, a Shadoo gains a +4 to all her attacks and to her damage. I would change this to attack or damage not both or lower the bonus to say +2. Speed: In her speed form, a Shadoo is proficient with dealing quick blows. She aquires a -4 to all attacks but gains an standard action each turn. Can the shadoo use this standard action for anything. Defensive: In her defensive form, a Shadoo is defending herself. Her objective is mainly to escape or to wait out the damage. She gains a +4 dexterity bonus to her armor class. I would change this to a dodge bonus and not alow it to be used with the offensive form. Which will require more battle forms :) . Moody Forms: At 7th level a Shadoo goes into an uncomfertable state. She is able to go into different moods to affect her abilities. These forms last untill her mood fades. Angry: When a Shadoo is angry, this form is triggered. While in this form, she can only make regular attacks but all her attacks gain a +6 to damage. What tells the DM if the shadoo is angry. I think this would be cooler if instead of all the abilities tied to more damage and attacks. Maybe this should cause a Fear affect of some kind. Berserk: When a Shadoo is extremely angry, this form is triggered. She can only use normal attacks and takes a -4 to armor class. She also gains a +10 to all damage while in this form. Again what indicates angry or extremely angry. I would use the Barbarians rage for this one. Unhappy: When a Shadoo is depressed, this form is automatically triggered. She looses the will to attack enemies and gains a -4 to all of her attacks and to damage. I would give this some kind of benefit. Maybe something like causeing all opponents within 10 feet to suffer as well. Say a -2 to all actions, attacks, damage, saves ect... Joyful: When a Shadoo is extremely happy, this form is triggered. She gains a temporary +3 to her strength score. I would maybe change this to confidence and change the bonus to +2 to Str and Con and a +4 to Will saves. Embaressed: When a Shadoo is irregularly embarressed, this form is triggered. She takes a penalty of -5 to her attack but gains a +6 to her armor class. I would change it to a -4 penalty and specify what kind of armor bonus I would go with dodge. Aligned Forms: At 9th level a Shadoo is in complete tranquillity. She gains different forms according to her alignment. These forms last as long as her alignment does. Kind-Hearted (Lawful Good / Chaotic Good / Neutral Good): While this form is active, a Shadoo's chest has a deep red heart with white along the edges. These seem fine. Infuse Shadow (Sp): At 6th a Shadoo gains the abillity of infusing her shadows into her spells. At will, she is able to change the element of her spells to shadow. A shadow spell deals x1.5 damage to undead creatures. For example, a cone of cold that deals shadow damage. What spells? I’m confused on why shadow would do more damage to undead and not to living creatures. Shadow's Blade (Sp): At 7th level a Shadoo gains the ability of infusing her weapons with her shadowy powers. She must perform a ritual which takes a total amount of time equal to 24 hours. When she is done, her weapon of choice gains the shadow element. This element deals 1d6 extra shadow damage (x1.5 against undead). This damage does not stack with any other elements. I would keep the ritual bit but I would have this affect any weapon the shadoo wields. No benefits? I understand having things there for role playing value but as one of you capstone abilities it shoud do something. |
| Ultima007109-16-07, 08:23 PM | Changes will be made ;) |
| Mordin09-17-07, 11:02 PM | Hope that helped some. :) |
| Realms of Chaos09-19-07, 09:11 PM | As the ac bonus you give the Shadoo originates from being less substantial, rather than having thicker skin, consider changing the AC bonus to untyped, dodge, or (I suppose) insight. |

| Ultima007109-22-07, 02:58 PM | I have to say I like the idea the concept is cool. Any PrC you cannot finish before epic levels is bad form thou. I would lower BAB to +10 or less. Lowered to +6 since. Why Diplomacy and not Hide and with so few skills why 6 + Int mod? Diplomacy seems to have nothing to do with this class. Diplomancy taken out and only four skill points given. This ability is cool but I would restrict what kind of armor he/she can wear. Say after the first change the shadoo can only use medium armor then light and so on. Only medium armor can be worn ;) Maybe say that by reading his/her opponents shadow he/she can predict the targets next move. Make it a single attack that is resolved as a touch attack JMO. Resolved. I would limit this somehow perhaps a number of times per day equal to his/her Cha or Int. At will is just to powerful. Ability redone. This is an interesting ability. I would limit the amount of forms a shadoo can use all at once or add some more forms to each list. The battle forms can come accross as boring if there are only three and you get to choose all of them at 5th level. New forms, better abilities, more specific rules. What spells? I’m confused on why shadow would do more damage to undead and not to living creatures. Ability Changed. I would keep the ritual bit but I would have this affect any weapon the shadoo wields. Seems fine to me the way it is. No benefits? I understand having things there for role playing value but as one of you capstone abilities it shoud do something. Ability Modified. ALL in ALL prestige class has had a slight makeover. Check it out ;) |
| Mordin09-22-07, 07:14 PM | Shadow Body: A Shadoo's body is different than other humanoid creatures. I would change this to “because of the slow change in a shadoo’s body she becomes more agile and “lighter” on her feat she gains a +2 dodge bonus to her AC at 3rd level this increases to +4 at 6th level. However because of a lack in body mass the shadoo receives a -2 do all damage roles when attacking with melee and unarmed strikes Infuse Shadow (Sp): At 6th a Shadoo gains the ability of infusing her shadows into her spells. At will, she is able to change the element of her spells to shadow. A shadow spell deals an extra 1-point of Wisdom damage. For example, a cone of cold that deals shadow damage. Again I’m confused about the ability to affect spell this class has no spell progression. And IMO since this class is “shadow” based it should do Str damage. Also the Str damage should me scaled with the your class level say 1point at 3rd level 2 at 6th and 3 at 9th and move the ability to 3rd level. Since this is “shadow” damage it shouldn’t affect undead at all IMO but only living creatures. But this extra damage should stack with other elemental properties of the weapon. For example, a flame tongue sword would do +1d6 fire damage and +1d6 “shadow” damage. I would make this so she can no longer wear armor heavier than light further more the shadoo gains a +8 dodge bonus to her AC (this replaces her shadow body ability, see above) a +6 to Hide, Move Silent and Disguise self checks. Her shadow’s blade ability now dose +1d8 damage and no longer suffers armor check penalties to Hide and Move Silent when wearing light armor. However the shadoo now receives a -4 to all melee and unarmed damage rolls. The wording is bad and needs revision but here are some more thoughts hope it helps. :) |
