| oMni2k503-12-07, 02:45 AM | Hi everyone. I am looking to create a prestige class that can be taken by any melee combat-oriented class that allows a character to become the separate levels of super saiyan (from the Dragon Ball Z and GT series). However, I am finding it very difficult to determine what should be added and how the entire prestige class should be put together. The following are my ideas, and some are slightly modified from the original series. If you can, please evaluate and help me decide how to put this class together :) For reference, here is the Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Saiyan). General Stuff - This PrC can be taken by any race that has Saiyan blood (including half-bloods, quarter-bloods, etc), or just make it available to the Saiyan race (which is another project entirely). - 10 levels. The sheer power should be spread out over many levels. Specific SSJ Powers - Should Ozaru form (and thus SSJ4) be included? I think it would be difficult to make it fit within the DnD rules, because generally a size increase is a power increase. - A SSJ "points" system. It requires a certain amount of points (that scale with the PrC level) to enter and maintain a SSJ state, as well as to maintain an aura and lightning shield (see below). - Levels of SSJ: Rage, Ultra, Ascended, True, Level 2, Level 3, Legendary. The stat bonuses scale according to level of SSJ. - Rage: Aura, low Str bonus, moderate Wis penalty, low point consumption - Ultra: Aura, lightning shield, high Str bonus, high Dex penalty, high point consumption - Ascended: Aura, moderate Str bonus, low Con bonus, low Wis penalty, moderate Cha penalty, moderate point consumption - True: Aura, moderate Str bonus, moderate Con bonus, low point consumption - Level 2: Aura, lightning shield, high Str bonus, low Dex bonus, moderate point consumption - Level 3: Aura, lightning shield, high Str bonux, moderate Con bonus, moderate Dex bonus, low Wis bonus, very high point consumption - Legendary: Essentially a template that can be added to any SSJ form, adding Str, Con, Dex, or Wis (character's choice). The legendary "ssj-template" also has the capacity to generate additional points while in combat (for example, Brolli uses a combination of Ultra and Legendary(+Dex) to maintain the high strength bonus while generating extra points to maintain its high point consumption). - Aura: By spending a certain amount of point(s) to activate and maintain, a SSJ can activate a golden aura that adds a deflection bonus to AC as well as other small miscellaneous bonuses, such as light equivalent to a torch. Taking a certain amount of damage in a single round can dispel the aura. - Lightning Shield: The lightning shield can damage opponents and heightens the Saiyan's strength. As with the aura, a certain amount of damage taken in one round can dispel the aura. |

| Angelflesh03-13-07, 01:13 AM | I think Super Saiyan could work as a template as well. |
| danzibr03-13-07, 12:42 PM | I think Super Saiyan could work as a template as well. Yeah, totally not a PrC. If you want a PrC it could be like... Super Saiyan Disciple. Like Dragon Disciple but Super Saiyans, so at the top level you could be a Super Saiyan. Anyways, I like DBZ and I bought a Wii so I could play Budokai Tenkaichi 2. Fun game. Dan |

Enlarging costs more than you think I see super sayin like call shots. If you read your book theres no need to make something up. Buy a PHB, take levels in barbarian and call your self goku, top off with Frenzy Berzerker and you have ssj4. Lets face it, D&D charecters do not destroy world with waves of their hands, becuse of this there is no way to please fans with D&D rules. |
| Screams_of_the_Oak03-13-07, 09:10 PM | I don't think you can suceed in creating a super saiyan prestige class for this reason: Dungeons and dragons, in my opinion, has always tried to rationalize and make impossible possible by using core rules. However crazy and out-of-this-world some concepts have been (such as psionics, truenames and of course magic) the goal of the game has always been to present these things as realistically as possible. One thing I enjoy about dungeons and dragons is changing core rules in home games, because 4 rational individuals think what is written in the book is not presented correctly, and perhaps a different presentation would be more satisfying. But, the dragon ball series does not do this. The games, the television, the movies all disregard what is scientifically possible for sheer entertainment. I know there are exceptions to this, please do not feel you need to educate me on the dragon ball series. I've watched my fair share. However, I think everyone will agree that unless you make an demi-god or something, you won't be able to match the power depicted in super saiyan characters. |
| LostPassWordDoesNotWork03-14-07, 12:07 AM | Aye, it's like wanting to become a planeswalker in D&D. Maybe a paragon human arificer 20 with a bonus addon of ten Planesshifters and a divine rank of 0 can mimic Urza (ECL 35+rank). Exactly how many games are you going to get to play something like that? |
| enygmatic_me03-14-07, 01:07 AM | Wow, I have to say that I am surprised and happy to see that this thread hasn't degraded like so many before it. My insight in to this situation. Make the Saiyan race, then make a Saiyan Warrior PrC that enhances the Saiyans racial features as they progress through levels. You could also make a Saiyan Paragon Class. |
| The Crystal Mind03-20-07, 01:00 PM | If you really want to create a prestige class around this, why not consider using some of the feats present in PHB II as class abilities, or grant them as bonus feats. Specifically, I'm talking about modifying feats such as Fiery Fist, Fiery Shield, and the Combat Focus feat tree (there is even Combat Awareness, which lets you know adjacent creature's hit point totals!). |
| Aggrenox03-20-07, 01:10 PM | Warhulk/Psion *shrug* |

These two ideas used together would be just about perfect, both from an rp standpoint and a mechanical one as well. And keep in mind that Dragonball was probably the equivalent of high level play and Dragonball Z was probably epic... Just go for a similiar feel and accept that the 'fat crackling power of the gods' just won't be there... Come to think of it, RT's monk/warmind using some eberron feats might do a good job of emulating some of the abilities a DB character would have... |
| teshen03-21-07, 07:38 PM | Lets face it, D&D charecters do not destroy world with waves of their hands, becuse of this there is no way to please fans with D&D rules. Epic level characters can destroy entire regions fairly easily. And you disappoint me, Lost. You give a decent link and follow it up with being a jerk. Where's the totally obnoxious fellow I ran into... oh so long ago... with an idea for a monk variant... :P Buy a PHB, take levels in barbarian and call your self goku, top off with Frenzy Berzerker and you have ssj4.Ah, but barbarians and frenzied bezerkers don't have any martial arts flavor or spell-like abilities... where's the fun in that? :monk: :D |
