The Unseen

“Now you see me, oh wait, no you don’t. Funny That”

The Unseen are masters of what appears to not be there. They learn to hide so effectively that they can not only blend into shadows, but disappear completely. Often shunned from society, Unseen walk a lonely path, moving though life unnoticed, but that’s usually the way they like it.

4. +3 +1 +4 +4 Blink and you’ll Miss it
5. +3 +1 +4 +4 Unseen Strike
6. +4 +2 +5 +5 Untraceable

CLASS FEATURES

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: An Unseen gains no proficiency in armor or weapons.

Unseen (Su): An Unseen can become invisible at will. This functions as the spell invisibility. Initiating this process is a full round action that provokes attacks of opportunity and does not allow a 5 foot step. This invisablity last for as long as the Unseen wishes. However it suffers the same restictions as the spell invisibility.

Conceal Others (Su): By linking hands, an Unseen of 2nd level or higher can spread his invisibility around to his allies. He can conceal 1 medium creature per 2 class level. For this purpose, Small creatures count as half a medium creature, Large creatures count as 2 medium creatures. When The Unseen gains Unseen Strike and Untraceable these benefits extend to the group of concealed creatures.

Unseen Adaption (Ex): At third level, the unseen begins to adjust to being invisible for longer, learning to move with less noise while invisible. This grants him a +4 bonus on move silently checks while invisible.

Blink and You’ll Miss it (Su): From level 4, an Unseen can turn completely invisible as a swift action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Unseen Strike (Su): When the Unseen attains 5th level; his invisibility remains intact even if he attacks a target. In effect, instead of the Unseen’s Unseen ability replicating invisibility, it instead replicates greater invisibility.

Untraceable (Su): Upon gaining 6th level, an Unseen no longer leaves footmarks if he walks. This includes splashes when the Unseen moves in water. Also, the Unseen is no longer traceable by scent.

PLAYING A UNSEEN
An unseen is perfect for thievery, infiltration, assassination, any thing that requires great deals of stealth. The head of a thieve or assassin guild may be an Unseen or an Unseen could be a lone wolf who stalks the jungle, using his abilities for hunting (animals or otherwise)
Combat: Many Unseen use their abilities to move into favorable positions or to catch enemies off guard. Others use their invisibility to escape their foes.
Resources: Unseen are not a unified group, though if two somehow discovered their powers. They may become close friends due to their shared abilities or mortal enemies, feuding in a power struggle.

UNSEEN IN THE WORLD
“ All I remember was that I was sitting in my lounge eating my dinner, I didn’t even see what hit me."
Yorik Mensk, freshly resurrected merchant.

Notables: Bordrik Veils, was an Unseen. Growing up poor as a child he dedicated the use of his powers to the good of others, Robin Hood style, stealing from the rich giving to the poor. He stole a very large amount from a particularly vengeful noble, who hired a powerful diviner to track down his thief. He was divined to be traveling to a town nearby. The noble paid off the inn keeper to put any strange men that arrived seeking shelter in a small house outside the building. While Bordrik slept he had mercenaries burn the house down. Though no body was found Bordrik is assumed dead.
Organizations: Some information about organizations dedicated to the practice of your class and other organizations which members of your class will be attracted towards.

NPC REACTION
Very few Unseen reveal their true identities. But the ones who do are rarely treated the same. Townsfolk often mistrust them, it is to much for some people to not know if they are being watched. As such they are sometimes chased out of town by an angry mob wielding pitchforks and torches, as certain possessors of strange powers.

This seems a decent class, though aren't most Prestige classes 3, 5 or 10 levels, not 6?

Invisibility is a good ability, but I have to say that there are other ways of doing it without puting levels in a class. That being said, I doubt that any of them let you be invisible all day.

On a side note, I thought this thread would have something to do with Summoner 2...

Yeah!!! I made a 6 level Prestige class!! I'm A REBEL!!!

I wanted to make it able to compete with warlock, and their walk unseen invocation.

I was actually just reading the Warlock entry when I got the email saying there was a reply here...

And wow... I've never actually looked at that invocation before. 24 hours?

I think you may have succeeded inbeating it when the character is able to do it as a swift action.

Yeah. Also Walk Unseen only affects your self. At level 2 you turn others invisable so i think that helps beat it.

Maybe I should up the BAB?

This class seems to be very Rogue-like. I'm a little surprised that the saves and BAB aren't already the same as the Rogue.

Sweet looking class. When you feel like getting the fluff all written out and cleaning up the OP might I suggest using one of the PrC templates I have linked in my sig.

Very nice. There are a few things that are unclear though. For instance, what is the duration of the walk unseen ability?

And yeah, 6 levels is weird. But there' no reason it shouldn't work. Just makes it harder to fit the class into a build incorporating multiple classes/prestige classes. I don't think you'd be making the class too powerful if you gave them untraceable at level 5 and dropped the 6th level.

Looks really nice:thumbsup:
Now you just need a cool picture of someone fading from sight...

I like this class and the concept is neat. Not all that much needs to be changed, though I agree with rymosrac. But if you want to keep the class 6 levels thats cool too, you be a rebel;)!

Oh, one more thing; you might want to take a few moments and thoroughly read you PrC. Some of the abilities are kind of... cut off, mid-sentence.

Thanks for the heads up about the grammer.

If I were to make it a 5 lvl prestige class, what could I move around? If I brought Untracable down a level it would sorta give a massive power bump at the end.

I'm working on a picture now. I think it will come out good. Haven't done much drawing on the forums before.

If I may comment on the balance of the class.

A six level prc that continues sneak attack progression AND allows for unlimited greater invisibility is a bit overpowered IMHO.

To help balance it out, I would at least add in that the character must be able to cast at least a 1st level illusion spells. This also helps explain why the character is able to go invisible all the time.

Or, another great idea is to allow him to have his invisibility/greater invisibility active for 1 minute per total class level or something instead of infinite.

Honestly though, I think the best solution would be to limit or take out sneak attack all together. How about only including +2d6 or +1d6 of sneak attack for the entire class progression? This way no multi-classing is required, and you can keep your infinite invisibility as well.

Do that and you will have a pretty balanced class, one I would probably allow in my game if I was a DM.

Yeah, Sneak Attack was really a filler added at the end. I hate dead levels though... Hmmm, maybe just a small thing that gives you a +4 bonus on move siliently checks.

Eh. . . I'm not totally sure I'd make him miss out on sneak attack. Invisiblity - and even greater invisibility - lose usefulness at higher levels, and this class can't be finished before level 13. Can't get constant improved invisibility before 12th. And the class has no other offensive abilities.

Actually, you might grant them a death attack similar to the Assassin's instead of sneak attack. Death attack isn't amazing - The DC's are difficult to get high enough without liberal application of stinky cheese. But this guy's constant invisibility would let him get in position to use the death attack more often. Could be fun - but also might warrant sticking a few dice of sneak attack in as a prerequisite.

I could just replace Unseen adaption with a sneak attack only available whilst invisable. But what to call it?

Check out the shade template on pg 314 of Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. Some cool stuff there, invisibility at will, bonuses in dark..........
