| Pitiless_Interfector06-17-07, 06:17 PM | Eldritch Master Hd: d6 Attacks and saves: As warlock Class Skills (2+Int per level): As warlock Requirements: Skills: Knowledge (arcana) 15 ranks, Spellcraft 15 ranks Feats: Skill Focus (Spellcraft), Arcane Mastery Invocations Known: Any 8, including at least 2 greater Improved Caster Level: Levels of eldritch master stack with all other levels in classes that advance invocation caster level for determining spell penetration checks and level based variables, but not for any other purpose, such as improved eldritch blast damage or additional invocations learned. Eldritch Arcana: Each level, an eldritch master gains one ability from the following list: Essence Mastery: As a full-round action, you may mix two essences on a single eldritch blast. If the essences both change the damage type, the damage is split between the two types. If the essences both allow saving throws to mitigate their effects, each must be saved against separately. For example, Adramelech is a 13th level warlock/2nd level eldritch master. He encounters an outsider he has never seen before, and decides to fire off a hellrime brimstone blast. He spends a full-round action to fire off the blast, and makes a spell penetration check using his caster level of 15th against the creature’s SR 23. He rolls an 8, barely making the check. He rolls 7d6 for his eldritch blast and gets a 26. The outsider takes 13 points of cold damage and 13 points of fire damage, and must make both a Reflex saving throw and a Fortitude saving throw. If it fails the Fortitude save, it takes a –4 penalty to Dexterity for 10 minutes. If it fails the Reflex save, it takes 2d6 points of fire damage at the beginning of the following 3 rounds, as per brimstone blast. Blasting Expertise: The warlock’s eldritch blast deals an additional 1d6 points of damage. This arcana can be taken up to three times, and its effects stack. Eldritch Flurry: The warlock can make an additional attack with his eldritch blast in a round at his highest base attack bonus. However, both the original attack and the additional attack take a –5 penalty. This ability only applies to eldritch blasts delivered via a melee or ranged touch attack. This eldritch arcana can be selected up to three times. The second timne it is selected, the penalty is lessened to -2, and with the third selection vanishes entirely. Extra Invocation: The eldritch master gains Extra Invocation as a bonus feat. Eldritch Metamagic: An eldritch master chooses one invocation he knows of any grade other than the highest he can currently cast (other than eldritch blast or an essence or shape invocation) and any metamagic feat from the following list: Enlarge Spell, Empower Spell, Widen Spell, Extend Spell, Energy Substitution The eldritch master can apply the chosen metamagic feat to the selected invocation at will, though the casting time increases to one full round (or increases by an additional round; see spontaneous casting in the Player’s Handbook). This ability has no effect on the effective spell level of the invocation, if any. An eldritch master can take this arcana multiple times, applying the same or a different feat to the same or a different invocation each time. Innate Invocation: The eldritch master chooses one invocation of a grade other than the highest he can currently cast (other than eldritch blast or an essence or shape invocation). You can use the ability with uncanny skill. It is no longer subject to spell resistance and cannot be dispelled, though it is still suppressed or destroyed by an antimagic field, Mordenkainen’s disjunction, or similar effect. It does not require somatic gestures and is no longer subject to arcane spell failure. Casting it does not provoke attacks of opportunity. An eldritch master can take this arcana multiple times, applying it to a different invocation each time. Eldritch Focus: The save DC of one invocation increases by 2. This effect stacks with the benefit of the Ability Focus feat. This arcana can be taken multiple times, but applies to a different ability each time. Eldritch Gaze: You can use arcane sight, as the spell, at will. This is a supernatural ability that is always active at a caster level equal to the caster level for your invocations, though it can be resumed or suppressed as a free action. Eldritch Power: You gain a +1 bonus to arcane caster level for all invocations. This affects spell penetration checks and level-dependent variables such as range and duration, but not effects such as eldritch blast damage or invocations known. |

| Pitiless_Interfector06-18-07, 01:16 PM | I'll read through it more later in terms of the special abilities. But one thing caught my eye: Archmage has a d4 because Wizard/Sorcerer has a d4. Shouldn't this share the Warlock's HD too? I had the sneaking suspicion that the PrC was bordering on overpowered, and thought that by reducing the HD and BAB (just like the demonbinder) I could help balance it out. |
| Eldritch_Lord06-18-07, 01:26 PM | I don't think it's too overpowered; the BAB should definitely be as the normal warlock if your eldritch flurry makes extra attacks at -5. Your example character would only have +10/+5, so eldritch flurry for even one extra attack would be +5/+0/-5, while with the warlock's BAB he'd have regular +11/+6/+1 and flurry +6/+1/-4/-5; it's not too much of a difference, but every little +1 counts when your major abiity requires an attack roll. Other than that, I like it. I might stick this in the next campaign I run that allows warlocks, if you don't mind. |
