| WOTrombone06-17-07, 07:46 PM | Concerning Shadow Craft, It states that the crafted item cannot contain moving or flexible parts and lists a crossbow, a rope, a flail, and a cabinet as weapons not able to be crafted, it goes on to say that you can create nearly any other weapon however. At first I had dismay Because i wanted to use this With a bow using ranger and figured I could not. I then went on to read the sample character and discovered that she had a shadow crafted + 2 Composite Longbow. So i was just wondering Peoples take on the wording bows are a yes since its in the sample or a no because bows are flexible? |
| Mastermage06-17-07, 10:26 PM | I would say that a bow can be made. I think when they put the line about no moving parts they meant no moving complex mechanical parts (such as gears or a hinge). Also, to use a bow you really just bend it. A shadowsmithed club still can be bent (a little when it hits an enemy) so a bow can be made and used. At least this is how I see it |
| Dead_Weasel06-17-07, 11:39 PM | Even though it uses a bow for the example, the ability's explanation of what it can be used to make pretty clearly rules out bows, since a bow propels an arrow by flexing. |

The Wood Part bends and gives just a little so I can see letting that happen but doesn't a bow string generally have the same properties as rope? Unless oif Corse Shaddowy bowstring has different properties than rope in which case OK but i just don't see that happening. I agree with you about the moving parts thing, but the flexibility thing is what really gets me. |
| WOTrombone06-18-07, 12:31 PM | Also i am confused as to why it can't make a flail as Its just a spinky ball attached to a shaft with Chain Links. |
| Dead_Weasel06-19-07, 01:26 AM | The ability cannot do these things because all it does is produce one or two pieces of shadow that are otherwise identical to another object that is also a "chunk." Assuming that I understand the logic of the PrC's writer correctly, a crossbow is not a chunk because it has moving parts. A rope is not a chunk because it is many strands of fiber woven together for a strong object that retains flexibility. A flail is not a chunk because it has chain links that permit the ball on the end to flail around. A cabinet is definitely not a chunk. A bow, apparently, is a chunk, but I cannot comprehend the writer's reasoning for this. A bow is, by necessity, a flexible object, but is mentioned in the example character's equipment block. Either the writer's definition of Shadow Craft-able items is inaccurate, or the example is incorrect. Solutions: Shadow Craft can make 1-2 objects, without moving parts, up to the weight limit. No bows. |

For now I'll use the no bow thing, and assume that the example was made by a different person and or the writer did it at different time and changed things around. It makes my archer person no available right now and hopefully it will be cleared up in a bit. |
| Nifft06-19-07, 12:58 PM | Examples are frequently inaccurate. Sample NPCs, on the other hand, seem to have an obligation to be inaccurate... -- N |
| LordArchaon06-20-07, 09:48 AM | Yeah, a ridiculous example is that the Shadow Smith ends up with a mere 2 first level mysteries and 1 second level, all usable only 1/day, but according to the sample NPC, she has CL equal to class level. Nevertheless, there is no mention of what CL progression they should have. |
