| bitnine07-09-07, 08:24 PM | Prestige Class: The Trancecaster "And now we will see the fruits of your devotion," the chieftain said as he looked down disapprovingly into the makeshift arena. "You were the perhaps the most promising scion that I have ever seen, the power of the red wyrm clear in your veins. But instead of learning our ways, you have tainted them with your meditations and magics. That is a purity that you have violated. If, as you claim, you have truly blended sword and your blooded power, perhaps you will defeat my champions. But I have little doubt that this day will see you alight on a pyre. Have you anything to say before your test?" "You are wrong about the pyre, but right about one thing," Kessok said, words slowing into an even cadence as he stepped forward. In an instant he leapt into the air and exploded. Flame erupted from his skin, wrapped his body, and flowed from his greatsword down to the champions below in searing torrents even as he completed a mighty swing. "I will burn!" Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Trancecasters gain no additional proficiencies. Progression: Trancecasters may treat their class levels as if they were levels in an existing arcane spellcasting class for the purposes of determining spells per day and spells known. They may also treat these levels as if they were levels of a rage granting class for the purposes of determining rages per day and abilities that modify rage. Trance (su): Instead of simply raging, trancecasters enter a trance. The form and nature of the trance varies greatly from individual to individual, a marriage of inborn power and a passionate spirit. Any time the trancecaster would enter a rage, he may opt to enter a trance instead. This carries the normal benefits and penalties of the trancecaster's rage feature (as well as duration and any other mechanics), but also includes benefits stemming from the trancecaster's magical attunement (see below). Additionally, most of the trancecaster's other class features are dependent upon being in a trance. When a tracecaster prepares spells, he may set aside a number of spells whose total levels do not exceed his class level (treating cantrips as if their level was one-half). The trancecaster must select spells which have a duration greater than one round and less than permanent, and are either personal or targeted. Each spell set aside in this manner is expended as if cast, including using any necessary components. Each time the trancecaster enters a trance before regaining spells again, he receives the benefit of the spells set aside, exactly as if he had cast each upon himself. However, the spells last for as long as the trance instead of their normal duration. Trancecasting (ex): Starting at first level, trancecasters retain the abilities to cast spells while entranced. These spells must have a casting time of a full round action or less, and cannot have a duration dependent on concentration. Additionally, if wielding a weapon with which he has proficiency, a trancecaster may treat that hand as if free for the purposes of somatic components. At third level, the trancecaster may ignore arcane failure chances from light and medium armor and bucklers while entranced. At fifth level, the trancecaster may use his character level as his caster level while entranced. Arcane Reaving (ex): When the trancecaster is entranced and makes a full attack or a charge, he may also quicken a spell as if by the quicken spell metamagic feat. The spell's level cannot exceed one-half the trancecaster's class level and the spell must either have a range of personal or include either the trancecaster or the target of the charge or an attack as a target or within its area. At fourth level, if a spell cast in this manner successfully deals hit point damage it also deals bonus damage equal to the penalty that the trancecaster is currently taking due to his power attack feat. |
| Chaos9007-13-07, 04:17 PM | First, this prestige class looks awsome! Second, I was wondering about the abilities that limit what spells you can use during a trance(the trance and trancecasting ones I think). Is it based on the prc level, or your total level(essentially, whats the maximum level of spell that you can use for this ability? |
