| Christal06-21-07, 12:00 PM | Good day people. I have recently made a cleric of Tyr for the forgotten realms setting, and am going to play the Ordained Champion prc from the new complete champion. However, people are saying that it doesn't fit Tyr very well. I could say that they are ignorant of Tyr's warrior nature, and point out the obvious point in the fluff stating that the fluff used is an example for an ordained champion of Hextor. But instead, I got an idea from Tome of Battle: Adapting the fluff to fit with another concept. If you can remove religion from the Crusader and still keep it in one piece, then why not do so with other classes that MERELY clashes when it comes to fluff. I hope to inspire others to post their adaptations and customizations, and turn this thread into a resource for players everywhere. Thus, I present: The Sword of Tyr Requirements: As Ordained Champion, but restricted to Lawful Good, and specify Longsword instead of “Deity’s favored weapon” Levels and Progression: As Ordained Champion Alter the fluff to read: “Prepare yourself, tainted ones! Your judgment is nigh!” – Warren Grayscorn True to the warrior nature of Tyr, the swords of Tyr travel the lands to mete out judgment and aid righteous warriors and adventurers, and help steer them onto the path of justice. Focusing more on the sword that Tyr favors, the Sword of Tyr wields blade and divine power more evenly than most tyrran clerics, the magical powers wielded in their off-hand often referred to as their “hammers”. The Swords of Tyr is a highly respected order within the church of the evenhanded, and serve as the strong-arm of the church where the justice of law and civilization rarely reach, or in cities where evil and corruption reigns, simply fail. Class features: Edit fluff to read: You are wholly devoted to providing justice through force of arms. And strike swift and true with blade and magic where negotiation fails or have no place. Your focus on skill-at-arms has slowed your spell casting advancement, but your martial powers more than make up for it. Playing a Sword of Tyr: You are fanatically devoted to the evenhanded god of justice. Justice is true and absolute, and should never be yield to treachery and taint. Your allegiance is first and foremost to the warrior ideal that Tyr himself represent, while carrying the wisdom and knowledge that the maimed god also represents close, so your blade can strike through deceit as well as armor and monstrous hide. You believe in action and expedience, for injustice is a tumor that will only infect and blind the innocent if you stay your blade. Better to endure punishment and make up for an error in judgment than allow good and innocent people to suffer due to inaction. Combat: Wielding potent magic along with your martial prowess, your duties are twofold. You must be aware of your companions needs and aid them as best you can, and step up to smite down enemies of good. However, your true potential lies in short moments of magically enhanced battle-prowess, where sword and spell merges to represent the wrath that is Tyr’s holy judgment. Your spontaneous access to the war domains allows for easier improvement of your fellow warriors, bringing Tyr’s wrath through the power of righteous unity. Advancement: Though the evenhanded do not believe in favoring particular members of his church, he recognizes that some have less potential in the field of law and bureaucracy, and more in the field of warrior prowess. Thus, his divine decree of 1369 DR that demanded all his clergymen be of lawful and good alignment and of equal status included two specialized orders for the individual cleric to follow beyond this demand in conduct and devotion; The Justiciar and the Sword of Tyr. Law or War. You have chosen the latter. Thus the focus of your feats and ability increase should be carefully balanced between divine powers and martial strength. While your wisdom is of utmost importance, ignoring your constitution as a melee combatant with inferior hit dice compared to other warrior classes may be fatal. Your feats may be distributed between combat feats, divine caster feats and undead-turning feats, all to improve your all-round effectiveness. Resources: The Swords of Tyr are expected to fend for themselves if they serve Tyr as adventurers. When in the service of the church, they receive much the same benefits a cleric or paladin would. Instead of tithes, Swords of Tyr are urged to invest money in sponsoring talented and promising youths in outlying areas, should they wish to attend a temple and receive training to become a servant of the maimed god. |
