| Worloch04-10-07, 01:40 PM | Sorry if this has come up before. My query is fairly simple: Can an Ultimate Magus use 0th level spell slots or spells, with Augmented Casting, to apply +0 spell level adjustment metamagic feats? My main use for this would be to use Elemental Substitution on the fly with my Wizard spells by sacrificing 0th level Sorcerer spell slots. Here is a link to the UM excerpt: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20061010a&page=3 Replies are appreciated :) |

Instead of making the conversion when it is free you are now sacrificing a spell (a minor one but still a spell) to make up for not preparing them in the first place. Although it isn't mentioned you could burn a spell slot to add a "Sudden" metamagic ability. This is (or at least should be) a waste of course as you can only use each Sudden feat once per day regardless of how it is activated. |

Of course, the 5th level spells limit (1/2 UM level) on Augmented Casting does mean that a Sudden feat is nice for spells above that limit. |
