Vigilante seems a bit underpowered, particularly their smite (though it has the potential for a wider range of targets) seems to be rather limited...

For anything other than flavor reasons, is the class worth taking? I've never been very good at identifying over/underpowered classes.

Thanks!

I've never seen any good use for that class.

Can you get your dm to believe that they really get 20 3rd lvl spells perday at 7th? "No, no, it's not a typesetting error! The really do have 33 3rd lvl at 10th level!"

Personally, I never liked the flavor of the class, similar to the Assassin PrC. Both of them I figured were more of roles or professions than classes, and I didn't like the implementation of either. I felt I could make a better assassin or vigilanty on my own without said classes. Part of my problem is I love Batman, so I tend to measure other vigilantes by him, so when I see a spell list, I automatically get biased.

Yeah, that one's great. Hopefully common sense will prevail.

It's generally considered quite weak. it does get a couple of interesting tidbits like Mettle, but there's no attraction to the class. Overall, it has the feel of an Urban Ranger/Paladin, but with no full BAB, a d8 HD, mediocre casting and a semi-useless Smite ability. Bonuses to skills are easy to get. It also requires quite a bad feat for entry.
It's very subpar. A decent fix off the top of my head would be something around giving it full BAB, Urban Tracking, or the Investigate feat from ECS as bonus feats down the progression or some nifty way of finding out information about a person (Legend Lore, Locate Person, Find the path or something).

I have to agree with everyone else. I was just looking at the Vigilante today in fact and I have to say I am not impressed. The PrC seems more tailored for NPCs you might encounter than something a player would want.
