| Fimbulvetr10-24-07, 02:21 AM | Kinda has an Assasian feel in-game, emotionless, cold, killers, the voidmage is also a survivalist, and general utilitarion caster, with very limited, but powerful options. " Light? Hope? New beginings? Love? Life? your devotion tickles me charlaton. All ends in obliteration, love in hatred, life in death, and light in empty darkness, there is no pressing, there is no passion, there is no purpose in your world, I am but a student of the simple, a free man happy with my freedom, and my teachers would leave you blind deaf and dumb. Preach priest, sing your heart out, live for your today. Tommorow, the final darkness falls." -Adimarcus, Voidmage The Voidmage realizes that his world is slowly, but surley falling into the suffocating black void, of what they like to call "The Truth Beyond the Viel". That everything with a begining must have an end, and the only eternal force, the only solid state, is entropy, apathy and crushing, hopeless, darkness. By harnessing this darkness, by excepting that his reality is a lie, a viel placed before his eyes, the voidmage learns to view the world without filters or censors, the true state of the multiverse. Through this ultimate understanding of the real, he can deny the viel's hold over him, and others. The voidmage doesnt kill with a blade, nor with a spell, a voidmage kills his enemy by unmaking his very essence, he sends them to the finality that is there ultimate, uncondisionall, innevitable end. Hit die: d4 Requirements: Alignment: True Neutral, only those who have freed themselves from the black and white concepts of morallity can view the world in the way a voidmage must Feats: Iron Will, any two metamagic feats Spells: Must be able to cast 5th level arcane spells Skills: Concentration 10 ranks Specail: Must renounced his belief in this reality, and everything it encompaces, He must voluntarilly give up all his wealth and material possesions, renounce any god he worships, sever all ties with any family or friends (though he may continue traveling with his monster busting buddies, he however may not continue to call them "friend") lose all his casting abilities, saves, and weapon profieciencies, and starve to death. If at any time, he eats, drinks, forms a new bond of friendship, breathes, blinks, or acknowladges any of his bodily needs, he immediatly loses all voidmage class levels, including abilities weapon and armor profiencies and all other applicable loses. He is no longer subject to death from massive damage, he does not need to eat, sleep or breath, his body ceases to function, his heart stops beating, he no longer needs to see with his eyes, hear with his ears, or use his bodies function in any way, (though spells such as "darkness" and "silence" still function normally, they do not remove his organs ability to see or hear, they simply eliminate sound and light, there is nothing to see or hear) it is simply an empty, undemanding vesel. He loses all phisical abilities except for the consequences of his physicallity, (such as locomotion and phisical ability scores) he gains darkvision out to 120 feet, and scent What if? How come?: The voidmage realizes that his imagination is as real as the ground he's standing on, and just as what ifs and how comes, become vivid tapestries in his mind, they become light, and chaos when they leave. At the designated levels he can use any arcane or divine spell, that is of a lv no greater than his voidmage level, the designated amount of times per day, with each succesive use of this ability per day, the level of spell he can cast decreses by two, until 24 hours have past without the use of this ability Destiny: The voidmage begins to lose his perception of key points of reality, things such as time. He can cast augry, locate object, and divination each the designated number of times per day, at 10th level he gains Time, what is time? he automatically knows the way to any item he wishes to find, and can see up to 3 rounds into the future, as long as they would definatelly result in a defined result (such as kicking down the door would triger a trap, killing the townsman would result in the guards attacking, falling down the pit for 3 rounds would or would not show you the bottom) he effectively gains 3 hypothetical rounds of action in any situation, he knows what would happen is he opens the door, if he continues dealing damage to the dragon for three rounds, if he fails his his fort save ect. Apathy: The voidmage retreats into himself he minuses to points from his cahrisma and wisdom scores, and takes an aditional -6 on any charisma or wisdom based skills Pierce lies: As dispel magic or true seeing for 1 round Skip the Middle-Man: The voidmage does not need to invest in worldly gains, he can gain the save's of a memeber of any class of his level or lower for 1 round per use, per day. The weapon and armor profiecencies of any class of his level or lower for 5 rounds per use per day, or the skills of any class of his level or lower, or acces to one feat for 1 minute per use per level You are lost: Through his devotion for exposing the lie of reality, a voidmage can destroy the will, the opinions, and the moral fiber of any man as a full round action. Him and his target make opposed will saves, if his target looses he is stunned for 1d10 rounds blind and deaf for 1d6 rounds, and dazed for 1d12 rounds. Upon recovering from the dazed state the targets alignment is nuetral, he cannot speak, and does nothing but stare into the distance until he beats the voidmages original will check, if this is imposible, he is dominated, permanently by the voidmage, (though it will not willingly eat, drink, or sleep under any curcumstance, though it still needs to and will eventually die, left ot its own devices), forcing him and the voidmage to again make opposed saves, if the target is succesfull he returns to his old self, regardless any target who suceeds its save or is freed from the effect is immune to this ability for 24 hours Definatelly over powered, tried to make each voidmage level worth around 2 charecter levels, keeping in mind that they loose all former abilities of the mage class, and preaty-much any other class he could have belonged to, besides like warrior and rogue feats. Its kindof a plot device for one of my campains, wanted to see if anyone else liked it, whatcha think? |
| Ultima007110-24-07, 03:25 PM | See this? It's called bold. Please use it. Also, use tables, it helps :) |
| vorpo10-25-07, 01:37 AM | Very hard to read, so I only looked at the table briefly for now. 0 BAB and 0 fort and 0 ref all the way? No way! When your lvl increase, it means you have more experience in fighting, so the worst you can get is still 1/2 BAB. As for fort/ref, same argument. As you advance in lvls, you have to be sturdier or quicker to some extent. If you are nullifying BAB, fort and ref for your class features, then it's very clear that your features have to be nerfed. (Though as I said, I have only looked at the table) |

(Though as I said, I have only looked at the table) Yeah the class is intentionally overpowered, they dont get a BAB fort or ref because their bodies have stoped functioning, including their minds, the only reason the will save bonus increses is... well he's kinda becoming insane completelly losing touch on reality, he is learning more and more that everything is false and theres no need to resist, his malefactor isnt really there. Also i'm not surte where to find alot of the tables and such... just got on the forums yesterday :P running a new campain soon and wanted to share some of my idea's and get some feedback. So.... where exactelly are they? |
| Realms of Chaos10-28-07, 12:09 AM | If anything, this class is underpowered. For one thing, the void mage lacks items. As the void mage is completely neutral, they no longer qualify for vow of poverty. In fact, as they can no longer possess a weapon, they are reduced to incredibly poor unarmed attacks while within an antimagic zone (and it is kind of a miracle in itself that they don't just fall dead in those areas, now that I think about it). Furthermore, you mention that each level is worth 2 levels but at the same time, you lose all benefit from previous levels. What this means, in short, is that when the 9th level caster gains a new level, which should put them up to 10th level, they are instead reset and given two levels, placing them at the equivelant of 2nd level. Also, until 4th level, the void mage suffers from the poor combination of a d4 hit dice and no reflex save. Fireballs hurt. Alot. Next, I notice that unlike the risen martyr (or whatever that BoED prestige class is called), the prerequisites and abilties mention nothing about the voidmage rising from the dead after starving to death, meaning that they have to get resurrected afterwards (to prevent the level loss that would annul the prerequisites). Finally, as written, when you sacrifice your spellcasting ability, you no longer qualify for this prestige class, meaning that you lose all class features. :D Even once you clean up those prerequisite problems, however, the second problem remains. While a Wizard 10/Voidmage 10 is just as powerful as a Wizard 20, a Wizard 9/Voidmage 1 has only a fraction of the strength that a Wizard 10 would possess. This thing is balanced in the long-term, but is absolutely terrible in the short-term. As an interesting side-note, I see that you are using a nonexistent will save progression. :) |
