Weapon Master?? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have been trying to find the Weapon Master prestige class, but with no success. It is the one also available in the computergame Neverwinter Nights 2 and 1. Hope you can help.

04-06-07, 11:18 AM I believe it appeared in the 3.0 Sword and Fist book, but I do not have that. It was, however, reprinted in another 3.0 book - Oriental Adventures, which you should be able to find at Paizo quite cheaply. I don't think there have been any major changes when OA was updated in the Dragon issue 318, but it may be that they took issue with the increased critical threat range.

04-06-07, 11:56 AM The weapon Master is in the Sword and Fist. It has not been updated as f yet. It is up to your DM if they will allow it.

04-06-07, 12:00 PM I do belive that the kensai is refered to as a weapons master. Other than that there is the exotic wepons master.

04-06-07, 01:23 PM I found the old weapon master in "Sword and Fist", 3.0. However, one of the requirements is "Expertise". Isn't expertise in 3.0 the same as combat expertise in 3.5?

04-06-07, 01:42 PM Expertise = Combat Expertise, for all intents and purposes.

Also, they gave a few of the benefits as additional fighter bonus feats in 3.5 (Greater Weapon Focus/Specialization in particular), though they dumped Ki strike and Ki critical, and the standard action whirlwind attack.

The reason the Weapon Master (Kensai) PrC isn't mentioned in the OA 3.5 update in Dragon 318 is simply there wasn't anything about that class that needed fixing. Only the abilities and rules that needed changing/updating were mentioned in that issue.

Everything else is good to go.

EDIT: And, let's be honest...one of the WM's main abilities is option of increasing the crit multiplier by one. Awesome at mid to mid-high levels, but at higher levels a lot of opponents start wearing Fortification armor. It's not that great of an ability.

04-06-07, 02:36 PM Oh and by the way, if you're running 3.5 and have the PHB2, you might want to consider re-writing the Weapon Master a bit for your campaign. Right now, a straight Fighter 20 ends up better than a fighter 10/WM 10 for a particular weapon, as long as you have PHB2 (Melee Weapon Mastery + Weapon Supremacy FTW).

Also, I never felt the original Weapon Master was powerful enough. He should be unmatched with his preferred weapon, not just a little bit better with it. But that's just me.

That's because the Weapon Master is more of a duelist than a front-line fighter. When you think of duels, one tends to envision either Renaissance fencers or duels between Sasaki Kojiro and Miyamoto Musashi.

I want to make a fighter for a Forgotten Realms Campaign. But we only have core books (PHB, PHB2, DMG, DMG2 and Complete warrior, but without the feats) as well as all the forgotten realms books. Anyone who can help with a good prestige class to a warrior? There musn't be any RP-restrictions, such as the class have to defend some tome, or protect a wood etc. etc.

04-07-07, 03:27 PM Well, for warriors with high charisma Divine Champion can be quite nice (although the Pious Templar from CDiv isn't a bad substitute at all). The various knight order PrCs (Knight Errant of Silverymoon, Triadic Knight, Purple Dragon Knight, Thayan Knight - CW, etc) all protect something. Ultimately, it's a matter of choosing based on your character's archetype (light warrior, heavy offensive warrior, heavy defensive warrior, mounted warrior, etc.) and the loyalties s/he will have, as imo there are many that are relatively well balanced with regard to each other. Where is your character from, or where will they likely operate?

04-07-07, 03:35 PM You are right. I am going for a heavy offensive warrior, using a two-handed weapon...Or perhaps dual-wielding (but it costs a lot of attack bonus).

04-07-07, 05:31 PM +2? Not that much at later levels, the likes of Weapon mastery take care of it well enough. However, it will take good dexterity to get the feats.
