Edymnion 03-04-08, 09:46 PM	I'm wanting to play an old character concept from several years ago that never really got off the ground. A human Paladin of Bahamut. While trying to rebuild the basic plan for the character, I realized I can't remember what the PrC I had picked out for him was, or even what book it was from. It was a Bahamut based PrC that had an entry requirement of having to single handedly defeating an adult red dragon (may have been younger, but I think adult). One of the things it gave you was a special suit of armor, a boon from Bahamut himself, as well as a portion of Bahamut's horde in the form of platinum coins. I remember having a thread on the CharOp boards about how early you could reliably kill the dragon to get into the class, but for the life of me I can't remember what the PrC was. Anyone know what I'm talking about? This may be a 3.0 PrC.
zerombr 03-04-08, 10:01 PM	that's in the book of Exalted Deeds, I forget the name, but lets you forge Platinum armor as well, it's Vassal of Bahamut, now that I've looked it up.

Vassal is also more powerful than the Platinum Knight for Hit-and-Run tactics. Platinum Knight is good for Divine Gishes though. Try and enter both for optimal Dragon-slaying.
Edymnion 03-05-08, 09:54 AM	Ah, BoED, I didn't remember it having dragon goodies, so I didn't check it. Thanks! And actually, I'm thinking of mixing up Vassal and Dragonslayer, I'll have to see how they mix when I get home to my books.
Edymnion 03-05-08, 09:06 PM	Ooh, just looked up VoB, and it would be lvl 8 at the earliest that I could get into it (+7 BAB prereq), and I would definately want to take all 10 levels in it. But even one level of Dragonslayer, especially when taken at high levels, look like it would be absolutely lethal. Damage Bonus says you gain a bonus to your damage against dragons equal to your class level, it doesn't specify that it means your Dragonslayer level. Might that mean that, at level 20, I would be getting +20 to all of my damage rolls against dragons, with only one level of Dragonslayer? Because with the +4d6 bonus damage I'd be getting from Vassal of Bahamut, and obviously I'd be sticking Bane (Dragon) on my weapon for another +2d6+2, thats an average of +43 damage per hit against evil dragons. Assuming my weapon is a +5 by that point, thats +48 damage, and just a 14 strength and my average hit would be forcing a Save Vs. Massive Damage every time.

Sunic_Flames 03-07-08, 05:17 PM	Minimum damage = 1, yes? It'd only take 12 strength to force auto massive damage saves. Course, Power Attack + something to ignore natural armor = lots and lots of free damage.

Edymnion 03-07-08, 11:42 PM	Actually, I figured out a way for a character with 50 gp to potentially kill the Juvenile Red Dragon at level 1 with a single ranged touch attack. The odds are against it, but its possible. Reds live in the mountains, so just find a nice cliff with at least a 200 foot drop. Wait for dragon to fly by, and throw a tanglefoot bag at it. Juvy Red is small enough for the tanglefoot bag to work on it, and the tanglefoot item entry specifically says that if a flying creature doesn't make a DC 15 Reflex save, it falls. 200 feet up means it hits the ground in less than one round, no time to pull out, and a juvy red will fail that save 20% of the time. Average damage for 20d6 is 70 points, more than enough to force a Save vs. Massive Damage. I'm currently planning a build more along the lines of Ranger 1/Fighter 2/Paladin 2/Dragonslayer 5 before going up against the red. That'll make me lvl 10 for a CR 10 encounter, with a straight up +7 to damage (+2 from Favored Enemy: Dragon, and +5 from Dragonslayer levels) with every hit before anything else is taken into consideration. Toss in a dragon bane weapon for another +2d6+3 on top of the 2d4 + Str for his weapon, and it shouldn't be too hard of a fight. Especially if I can manage to open it up with a tanglefoot bag induced fall that immediantly cuts the thing's hp in half. :)
