The only thing i can think of is the must have Death domain. other than that, it gives plus to arcane and divine spell caster lvls, stacks on rebuking, and a few decent abilities. i dunno maybe im a bit naive but they really dont seem all that bad.

At any given point in the class progression, you're further behind in spell progression than a character of equal level who went for Mystic Theurge, which is a rather weak class; that is, Mystic Theurge produces weak characters.

Moreover, you can never attain 9th lvl spellcasting.

But what makes the cleric so good at mass undead groups?

Clerics get access to desecrate, animate dead before wizards, the awesome Deathbound domain, as well as being clerics, which are generally cool. I believe K's thread in my sig regarding necromancy in general addresses all these questions, and speaks about the True Necro's terribleness too.
