| Eldritch_Lord04-19-08, 06:53 PM | So far as I recall (I'm AFB at the moment), the ability simply states you can reroll when picking a randomly-determined result from a Rod of Wonder, Bag of Tricks, etc., and pick the better result. In that case, it applies; the Deck of Many Things is no different from any other item that has a randomly-determined effect, or it would specifically say so. |
| Beckettvampire04-19-08, 08:22 PM | AFB also, but I'd so no. Deck of many things isn't really random in the sense that top card number one and top card number two are the same thing, so to speak. What I mean is, lets say you are oicking the top card off the deck, or the middle, or whatever. The ability as I remember it would basically be telling you put that card right back where you got it, and than redraw the exact same card. If the ability where based more on "is this goinging to be a good or a bad thing", sure. |

The basic Augery spell should also do the trick... simply cast the spell and ask "If I take the top card of the deck, is that a good idea?" If you get Weal, great, if you get Weal and Woe or Woe, then move on to "If I take the second from the top card of the deck, is that a good idea?" When you get Weal, ask about yet another card... if I take the top card, then the top card again, is that good?" As long as you get just Weal, you're good to go. The deck reshuffles between draws, but Augery should still work... your DM should take note of the results of your actions. Repeat until you're out of Augeries, then draw safely. Of course, this is a bit of a game breaker, but hey, the Deck itself has always been a game breaker in one direction or another. The Deck is just like gambling... if it's actually a gamble, you shouldn't be playing in the first place! Stack it in your favor! JaronK |
