Wizard of Knowledge Basic class features: Prerequisites: Ability to prepare and cast 3rd-level arcane spells, Knowledge (arcana) 5 ranks, Spellcraft 5 ranks Hit dice: d4 Skills: (2+Int mod) / level, Decipher Script, Knowledge (all), Spellcraft Base attack bonus: Low Base saves: no good saves Weapon/armor proficiencies: You don't gain any weapon/armor proficiencies. Specific class features: Spellcasting: At each level of this class, except for the first two levels, you gain +1 caster level to one arcane prepare casting class that you have before gaining this prestige class. You do not gain extra spells/day and spells known, feats, or other stuff. Spell learning: At each level you can learn 2 new spells of any spell level(s) you are capable of casting, and it can be from sorcerer/wizard spell list, cleric spell list, druid spell list, or a domain list. They are still cast as arcane spells regardless of which class list the spells come from. Spell slots: At every even number level you can gain a spell slot of any spell-level up to half of your caster level (round down). Feat access: You gain access to a feat that acts as the Spell learning feature of this class (except you learn only one spell instead of two), which can be taken as many times as how many level you have in this prestige class (but it still has to be taken as a normal feat slot). | Molot07-14-07, 08:20 AM | What's wrong with official Loremaster (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/prestigeClasses/loremaster.htm)?.. |
| mauslin07-14-07, 11:07 AM | :mymy: Really good class for sorcerers  Just take the Arcane Preparation Feat from Complete Arcane. It's so beautiful; they should have sent a poet :weep: Edit: it's also seems more powerful and easier to get into then the Loremaster. Add in the above way that sorcerers could get it, and it's probably broken. |
| zzo3807-14-07, 02:42 PM | If this class is wrong, can you please tell me how to correct it? |
| Molot07-15-07, 04:19 AM | If this class is wrong, can you please tell me how to correct it?The concept seems to be "arcane caster focused on knowledge". Official Loremaster PrC has the concept, guess what, "arcane caster focused on knowledge". First, make an idea of your PrC significantly different from anything published, or at least from anything from Core. Or, if you don't like official realization of idea, then explicitly state what you wanted to change and why. When you'll choose one of this ways, work on it. Then, your creation will have a decent chance to grab attention - and there will be a reason to give you balancing suggestions. There is no sense in balancing a class, knowing that most (if not all) DMs will say "Just play a Loremaster, ok?" |

This one is a caster focused on knowledge of more spells (the Loremaster is very different than this). Also you lose some spell slots and power for exchange in more spell knowledge. If you don't like the name, suggest something else. |

Your PrC does not gain any attention - that's a fact beyond any discussion. I'm doing my best to help you with that. OK, I'm not nice person, but don't treat my words as an attack. If I misunderstood your intention and concept, it's only because your first post does not provide any background, and the name suggests it's only a Loremaster's variant. Let's face it - neither I have any reason to care about your PrC's attention, nor do I know your intentions good enough to provide name consistent with them. Just btw, the shiny "code" tables makes PrC a lot more readable than blocks of hardly formatted text. |
| Tuhljin07-15-07, 05:51 PM | I found it quite clear from the OP that this was a "get more spells" PrC, not a loremaster. Anyway, you should put together a table for us as that makes it much easier to read, determine balance, etc. It even helps ideas flow when it's all laid out like that (and in the process of doing so myself I often come up with ideas). As an example of formatting, try looking at another formatted PrC in this forum and click "Quote" to see how the code is set up (but don't actually reply to the thread - unless that's your intent, of course). Offhand, the links I'd give you are of a couple of mine: The Mage of the Necromantic Order (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=885983) and the Steam Mage (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12347181). |

Wizard of Knowledge Basic class features: Prerequisites: Ability to prepare and cast 3rd-level arcane spells, Knowledge (arcana) 5 ranks, Spellcraft 5 ranks, Int 16+, and Spell Mastery. Hit dice: d4 Skills: (2+Int mod) / level, Decipher Script, Knowledge (all), Spellcraft Base attack bonus: Low Base saves: no good saves Weapon/armor proficiencies: You don't gain any weapon/armor proficiencies. Specific class features: Spellcasting: The Wizard of Knowledge gains +1 spellcaster level from a previous Arcane spellcasting class of their choice at 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 10th level. Spell learning: At each level the Wizard of Knowledge may choose to learn 2 new spells of any level. Ulimited Spells: The Wizard of Knowledge may choose to learn spells from any spell list, not just the wizard/sorcerer spell list. Spells selected from a Divine spell list are treated as Arcane and are learned as one level higher than they are listed on the spell list. Spells that include a divine or infernal engergy associated with them require an additional XP cost of 100xSpell Level. Divine spells that require XP cost normally have their XP costs doubled. Note: These spells are Arcane version of the divine spells. Not the actual divine spells. Spell slots: At every even number level the Wizard of Knowledge gains a bonus spell that can be added to any level of spells the wizard already has the ability to cast. Bonus Feat: Every level the Wizard of Knowledge may select a bonus metamagic feat. Table:Lvl BAB Fort Ref Will Special Spellcasting 1 +0 +0 +0 +0 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat, Unlimited spells - 2 +1 +0 +0 +0 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat,Spell slot - 3 +1 +1 +1 +1 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat +1 caster level 4 +2 +1 +1 +1 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat,Spell slot +1 caster level 5 +2 +1 +1 +2 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat +1 caster level 6 +3 +2 +2 +2 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat,Spell slot +1 caster level 7 +3 +2 +2 +2 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat +1 caster level 8 +4 +2 +2 +2 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat,Spell slot - 9 +4 +3 +3 +3 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat - 10 +5 +3 +3 +3 Spell learning (2),Bonus Feat,Spell slot +1 caster level Hit dice: d4 Skills: (2+Int mod) / level; Decipher Script, Knowledge (all), Spellcraft Weapon/armor proficiencies: You don't gain any weapon/armor proficiencies. I added the pre-reqs cause this class is pretty powerfull already, and it made me feel more comfortable altering the bonus feats rules. Now I did that cause I honestly had no clue as what the point of the "feat access" thing was. If it works like I think it does... IOW: There is a new feat. You can take it. Then you should write out the feat. Really you should clarify whats supposed to be happening there because it seems redundant. |

Hello, once level dip :) You made a class that's bland and flavorless after the first level, but broken at that first level. You've practically added all the spells in the entire game to the wizard's spellbook for the cost of one caster level. Ick. And you still gain 2 spells and a bonus feat, after which you can go prestige class elsewhere. Thanks, mate! :D Wizard 19/WoK 1 is still extremely powerful, unbalancingly so. |

Would removing the 2 spells and bonus feat at level 1 fix something? Maybe also make it non-wizard spells limit up to your maximum spell level -2, at level 2 it is up to -1, and at level 3 and above they are learn normally. |
| Realms of Chaos10-14-07, 05:41 PM | Here's my spin on it, giving it a couple of new class features and actually introducing the feat. I also put in spellbook specific language (prerequisites require spellbook, spell learning places spells directly into spellbook, the feat places spells specifically into spellbook, and one new ability helps spellbook transcription) to stop sorcerers and multiclass sorcerer/wizards from capitalizing on it. I also put in a stanza preventing any spells learned in such a way from being transcribed to scrolls or other spellbooks, because it would be unfair to grant the rewards of this class to other wizards who don't bother taking levels in it. Wizard of Knowledge Prerequisites: Skills: Knowledge (Arcana) 8 ranks, Spellcraft 5 ranks Spellcasting: Ability to prepare and cast 3rd level arcane spells.
