Ive been thinking about making a monk variant designed for archery, replacing the 1st lvl stunning fist option with Zen Archery and mabey giving them some special ranged weapon abilities. (I dont want to give them the typical ARCHER feats, that would just be stepping on the rangers toes too much)

I just wanted to know if anyone else had already done this. If it already exists somewhere in a good way, ill save myself the trouble.

Also, are there any good exotic ranged weapons around. Blow guns and the Great Bow dont count.

Well One thing to realize is you're in the PrC boards, you want the basic class board.

2) Avoid the rapid shot feat, I'd suggest giving the monk an ability to flurry with the bow, and say the ability doesn't stack with rapid shot, but qualifies as the feat as far as other feats and PrCs

3) Alter the feat list so instead of improved grapple, or stunning fist give them deflect arrows automatically, see if you can't find some advanced feats based on deflect arrows

4) If you have access to the order of the bow initiate see if you can't crib a few abilities in exchange for some of the other abilities, at the very least quivering palm needs to become quivering arrow

5) While the high unarmed damage of a normal monk is not necessary consider letting them keep the improved unarmed strike feat just to qualify for things like deflect arrows.

6.) Also stuff like fast movement and slowfall work for martial artist monks, arrow monks might want to focus their training on more ranged combat options.

7.) You might even consider dropping the HD of the monk down a notch to a d6
